And if you do, explain as to why. If you disagree with the zombie apocalypse theory, support your decision.. |

I believe a variation of it definitely could happen. Hell, we already have a type of ant that is basically a zombie. That's basically the only reasoning behind it. Also, the only reasoning I need. If it can happen with ants, why can't it happen with humans?

Explain why you think it's possible.
Will scientists make it? Or will a disease just catch on? |

I completely forgot about that ant. Just looked it up, "Ophiocordyceps unilateralis" I love your reasoning. That got me thinking. |

| Traditional, rotten zombies are highly unlikely. The most plausible archetype would be 'infected' rather than 'undead', as in people who have an illness rather than people who rose from the dead. |

Once again, if it can happen to ants, why can't it happen to humans?
I guess scientists could be researching the ant and accidentally release the "virus", but that's way too cliche' and probably won't happen.

if parasites manage to revive your brain and take control of it

Well, I don't mean the undead. I mean, some sort of virus, maybe like the ant gets, could be released to us, and it would just take control of our bodies and we would start having a thirst for blood or whatever. Undead zombies have hardly any logic behind them at all, because even if the virus took control of you while you were dead, how would your body do anything without a heart? Sure, maybe without a brain, but without a heart? No. You would be insanely weak and the virus would be either wiped out instantly or it would've never happened.

Actually yes. There has been a bit of testing around, and scientist had created a virus, which if realized, can take control of the brain and make a person a "zombie". |

As I stated, decaying cadaver zombies are implausible. It would have to be the fast-running, living variant (like the infected in Left4Dead) in order for it to work.
Rotting zombies wouldn't last long, they'd get pecked apart by birds and various scavengers before they could get far. |

Simple answer: No.
Living Organisms have one purpose; To procreate and to mutate (or make babies and evolve). They need to procreate so their species to survive, and mutate so their host's immune system doesn't get used to them. Pathogens controlling humans to spread is a real thing! But not to the extent of controlling a host to MURDER AND EAT BRAINS, it's far too complicated, unless you have A LOT of time to evolve, but by the time you evolved enough, the scientist would've figured you out for being so smartypants and made a cure for ya, and don't get me started on reviving the dead.
Viruses NEED to spread, that's their purpose. To spread to another host. If biting is the only way to get infected like in most movies, that is not a good way to spread the virus.

They already do. I wrote like 5 different papers on it for my Epidemiology class. It's a parasitic fungus called Cordyceps, and it hijacks insects brains (particularly ants, but different species of Cordyceps infect other insects too). It's not your traditional zombie in the sense that it reanimates you, but it's very close.

I love how so many people ITT are assuming the disease would be a virus, when it most likely wouldn't. Most neurological diseases are parasitic. There are some viral, of course, but they don't hijack the brain as much as they decay specific parts of it.

| Possibly, but they wouldn't actually come from the dead. It might be some type of parasite of something that basically controls you. |
