I ended up getting that Labomed Lx300 yesterday for my birthday, and all of my doubts about it were completely unjustified. It has a Butterfly binocular head too, which my last one didn't have.

You can do that with a powerful microscope eyepiece lens. I have an 80x one that I set stuff on fire with.
