"I do not know. It has been so long, and I do not remember memories that are both ancient and worthless. If you desire a name, name yourself. My purpose to see you to safety, nothing else. If you have time to choose a name, you must choose a weapon as well. I have precious few moments left in this world. We cannot delay on frivolous matters."

The pile of weapons are vast and varied in form and in shape. You see swords, spears, even a staff.

The boy took as little time as he could selecting his weapon. He tried them all out briefly, but eventually a double-edged, crossguarded blade of the kind a Western Knight might have used in another world and another time. It was a longsword, and it felt good in his hands. "This one." He gave it a swing. It was fast, surprisingly light, and he could feel the weight of death in his hands.

He stepped away from the gallery of weapons after slipping his new blade into a scabbard and strapping it to his belt at his waist. "Now what?" he asked, wondering what an amnesiac could call himself.

"We must escape. I have the ability to influence the danger threatening you, allowing me to give the space you need to escape, but when it entered the vicinity of the Sanctum, where we are now, most of it's powers were automatically sealed. I cannot influence it until it leaves that very vicinity. Take the boat. Be careful, though. The danger hides in the ruins surrounding us, wandering on the sides of towers. If it spots you you won't be able to reach the boat. You'd likely be dead.

The boy gulped. He felt now as if all the adventure which might have belonged to him was now separated from him by an eternity, that eternity being the embrace of death.

"Alright," he said, going to the path and descending from the tower. "Who are you?" he whispered.

"Irrelevant. My purpose is to serve you. That is all I'll do, and all you need to know."

You reach the boat safely. You see a ship of a fine, elegant design, covered with magical runes. It bring to your memories the basic so called "Cardinal" rules of magic. Magic is divided into Spells, like fireballs, Enchantments, like the ones on the boat, and Conjuration, which is divided between abilities like summoning monsters and ones that raise the undead. You can only use magic with a wand, staff, or spell-blade, which can only cast weaker magic than the other two.

The boy saved his response for after he got into the boat. "Okay. First, how can I get going with the boat, and second, how long will you be able to stay with me?"

He showed genuine concern in his voice at this maternal voice in his head. He wondered if he was amnesiac because he hit his head, but then he pushed away the thoughts. Whoever this was had helped him.

"The runes on the boat allow it to move by one of your thoughts. Will it in one direction and it shall move in that direction. As for the length of my remaining existence, if I were to stay within you, I'd last only three more days. I will not, however, remain in you. My purpose is above all else to me, even my own existence. I will fade from this world so you, the last of Your Kind, may live and save Their Kind. As such, expect me to fade within the hour."

The boy was sad. He quickly pushed himself off, willing his boat North before turning his attention back to the voice. He fumbled around with the words he wanted to speak in his mind before saying anything. Eventually, he began, "Okay. So serve me by telling me who and what you are, or at least where I am, and who 'They' are."

"That information will not serve you. It will do nothing to affect the outcome of this. I will not waste such time. Where you are is also irrelevant, I will ensure you reach safety. And what Their Kind is not Your Kind, and it is not My Kind. That is all I care to tell you."

The boat moves into the mess of ruins. Around you see destroyed buildings arcing and making their own paths. In their wake the oceasn rush and churn, the waves reaching heights one would not think possible in this lonely place.

The boy frowned. "What /can/ you tell me, then?" he questioned, keeping quiet as the boat moved swiftly through the ruins.

Though he had a clear thirst for adventure, true fear and anxiety was taking hold now. Whatever was here... he did not want to be in this place, or to see what /it/ held. The boy tried his best to ignore the feeling.

"I can tell you what you need to do when, if, you survive this ordeal. And I can tell you when it has noticed you."

All of a sudden, the boat stopped moving, as is forced to.

"I think that moment is now."

The boy tensed up and stood. He drew his blade and looked around, eyes wide and sweat noticeably building on his forehead. Every muscle in his body, scant though it was, and only one sentence came out.

"Am I going to die?"

"Maybe. This one is noticeably harder to escape from."

In all your looking around you see what stopped the ship. A single chain made of a beautiful, silver-ish steel. You had no small measure of luck when another one appeared of nowhere and missed you, shattering a hole through the boat.

The boy panicked. "What do I do, what do I do?!" His voice was raised now, and he had few cohesive thoughts at that moment.

But then instinct kicked in, and the boy's eyes scanned his surroundings, looking for the source of the chains.

"Hope that you don't die?"

You look and look, until more chains pop up, attacking the boat and destroying it. You stumble and fall into the water. As the rapids carry you you finally see the face of your attacker.

It was made of stone, and it looked crafted by the same hands who made the buildings around you. But it was alive. Stone plates surrounded a moving statue of an armored man who was spider from the waist down. He stood suspended from the waters on a web of chains. And he stared right at you.

"That is the danger pursuing you."

The boy felt a little angered at this point. The voice was not helping at all. "You're /some/ servant, aren't you!?" he called out before submerging himself, going as deep as he could while also keeping an eye (which burned from the salt) on the dark shape of his attacker above him. He grabbed a chain and tugged with all his might.

The chain did not budge. Rather it burned your hand and convinced the attacker to summon forth a chain that wrapped around you and lifted you into the air in front of it. It was larger up close. Half of your body only covered the length of it's head.

The boy struggled, gripping his sword tight. He spat at the.... creature's.... face, kicked, and prayed to whoever was listening. He eventually tried to look to the voice for help.

"I'll ask you again, /what do I do/!?"

"Swing your sword at the danger's face. It won't deal any damage but it will distract it and force it to let you go. You can't fight this thing one-on-one, you don't stand a chance. You must run and continue running."

The boy forgot his sword arm was free. He swung, with all his might, slamming the flat of his blade into his attacker's face.

You hear a hissing sound and the chains loosen up, dropping you onto the web. You feel an immense burning sensation on your skin as it touches the web. You could jump into the water and get off the web, or brace yourself and try the dangerous route of climbing it onto a nearby building.

((So sorry. I think I forgot to mention I'll only be available for weekends for a while.))

The boy preferred the dangerous route. He let out a wild cry and began attempting to scale the web to get up the building, hoping to reach the top before the beast could respond.

When he mounted the top, he glared hard at the... thing.

You succeed, but with each touch of the chain your hand begins to blister. From the building you see a flight of stairs going down, and a makeshift path of sorts to two buildings, one behind you over the monster's head and another the opposite way.

The boy quickly chose the path leading over the thimg`s head. His steps carried him across it, blade in hand. As he moved, he scanned his foe's head- any crack or opening in its stone facade. "Where do I hit it?" he demanded, breath coming out in pants from the effort.

"Do I need to clarify this for you? You can't beat it, not by yourself, not even when it's full power is locked. You need to run!"

The thing looks up at you, and then fires five different chains up at you. Beyond little chinks in the construct's legs that only lead into secured, seemingly iron joints, there are not holes in it's defense.
