Start easy and simple. When I mean simple, I MEAN simple. Like moving blocks into other blocks simple. Just around that.
Don't make something big or ambitious. Even if you have an idea that you thought of for years, dont do it. Just start with something easier and can be finished within a month.
Make sure you care more about the main game and foundation than content. For any genre.
You're first game WILL be crap.... but be proud of it non the less. You'll get better and you'll be able to compare it to future work
When you are ready to start to work on your deam project (the ideas you thought of for a long time) Only use bits and pieces of said idea. Make a game based off that. Than polish it. Than make the next game and add more bits and pieces from your idea. In other words, start slow.
Tutorials and asking for help is also good.
These are a lot of advice I got from many friends. So I might as well spread the word to any other young amatuer game dev if there are in other in this forum |
