I'm not sure I understand why shortening "Original Poster" is a bad thing? |

It's a bad thing because you're randomly calling someone something for pretty much no reason
i mean the least you can do is not shorten it....it's like the past five years everyone has been shortening every single word....it's depressing to say the least |

| I wouldn't say "no reason", the reason being simply that person is the one who originally posted the thread. Also, just pointing it out, shortening words has been going on a lot longer than five years, and I will agree that sometimes it can get fairly pathetic. |

| But it's obvious that the person made the thread pointing it out is as pointless as typing it to be honest. And i think the whole shortening words thing started out in mid 2007 |

| It's not really used to point out someone made the thread, it's used to point out that the original poster is who their comment is aimed at, for the most part. (i.e. in a post on the Suggestions & Ideas subforum; "OP's idea is really good, support") |

Or you could just write the name of who your talking to Example:@Sonicguy41
instead of coming up with a nickname....seems a bit mediocre |

| Some people do that, others refer to the original poster as OP. It's just the way many people do it on the forums, and no one really seems to mind it. |

Are you trying to make OT a better place? If you are, quit now. Trust me, i have seen many threads trying to do this, don't work

i might as well just make a huge post explaining to you why you're stupid.
>1.Insult everyone who has less posts than you
people don't do that here; people insult you if you're new here. there is a difference as a lot of otters used alts because of terrible moderation.
>2.someone joined a year after you call them a dumb noob
seriously, this doesn't happen. no one on ot uses the word "noob" un-ironically.
>3.If someone creates a new thread randomly call them OP because society says so
besides sounding like an idiotic sociology major in that statement, "op" means "original poster" or relating to the "original post." not everyone does this, and some people use @'s or >'s to indicate what they're referring to as well.
>4.if you have a certain opinion pretend like you're better than everybody
in what context exactly? this can refer to anything really, as people believe they are inherently right. |
