The Inquisition Reborn - Z0rr0w

Character:
Name - Wander Fenris

Age - 23

Gender - Male

Race - Dalish Elf

Appearance - A Dalish Elf with hardened, yet not built, build. Wander stands at a height of roughly 5'6 and has a headful of dirty brown hair that's been pulled back and tied into a samurai ponytail. Though, it's clear that his hair is still messy. Wander's hair is tied near the bottom of his head, but the years of Wander's hair being unkempt and damaged by the elements make the ponytail seem less like a uniform style, and more like a way to keep Wander's hair from falling off from abuse. This messy hair, coupled with a dirtied somewhat-tan face, make Wander's lifestyle of nomadic travel clear.

Upon first looking at Wander, it's easy to tell he's an Elf. That's actually not due to his pointed ears, but due to the fact that he doesn't have a beard, despite his weather-worn-and-hardened face. The majority of people, however, don't spot his messy hair and face, nor his pointy ears first. It's his eyes people look at.

Wander's right eye is a dark brown color and looks perfectly normal. But his left eye is jaundiced. The whites of it have turned yellow, and the iris looks like it might do the same at any time. Wander is infected with something, that's certain. But it hasn't taken over his entire body, evident from the health of his right eye. Wander has lived for several years with the plague infecting his body. Maybe one day he'll just fall over and die, but that day hasn't come by just yet.

Wander is wearing clothing that, though they look worn-out, aren't as weathered as his own person. He wears a dark brown short cloak with lace at the front just below the neck to adjust it. Though there's a hood on the cloak, Wander doesn't often wear it. Beneath the cloak are rather plain clothes. A brown leather shirt, brown leather pants, and a pair of boots. They don't really fit him too perfectly, almost like they were picked up on a whim and they weren't ever actually meant to be worn for him. The cloak, on the other hand, suits Wander perfectly.

Class - Rogue

Weapon(s)/Specialty - Daggers

Bio - By giving your son a name like "Wander," do you doom him to living a life representative of his namesake? Perhaps it's destiny, or perhaps it's simple coincidence, but Wander found himself living as a nomad relatively early in life, but not of his own accord.

He was born in the village of Fisher's End. His parents were Dalish Elves that lived alongside everyone else and fished. That's all they ever did, and that's what they taught their son to do. They weren't quite as nomadic as the rest of their people. Wander never had any experience with a bow or daggers, nor was he trained in their use while residing in Fisher's End. He had ample experience with a fishing rod though.

As we know, Fisher's End fell to plague. Wander still remembers the day his father first started coughing, then the day he first took a break from fishing to rest in bed... then the day he took a break from living to rest in a grave. It might've been better to burn the body. It wasn't long before almost everyone became infected with the plague. Wander's mother begged him to leave. So he did.

Wander had nowhere to go. He just had to go if he wanted to live. At a reasonably young age, Wander was forced to set out and brave the harshness of The Fallow Mire. Wander was quick to sharpen two pieces of wood into daggers, feeling he may have to defend himself from wild beasts one day. But besides causing the death of fish, Wander had no capacity for killing. Until one fine morning --

Wander went days without food, only subsisting on the disgusting boggy water of The Fallow Mire. His third night left him cold, hungry, and feeling ill. His third morning left him battered, bruised, and stained with blood.

A man had come out into The Fallow Mire on a horse after hearing news of the plague. Upon seeing Wander, he immediately drew his bow, nocked it, and apologized. The man could see in Wander's eyes that he had the plague coursing through his Elven veins. By all accounts, the man should've won. But, he'd made the terrible mistake of bringing food with him. The scent of food drifted through the dirty marsh air into Wander's nostrils. The Elf, rabid with hunger, lashed out with reckless abandon. It didn't matter to him whether he died by the blade or by an empty stomach.

Wander ate well that morning, though he suffered several wounds from the man he was forced to kill. For the first time in days, Wander was invigorated and satisfied. The blessing of nourishment resulted in him feeling no guilt at all for the death of the man. Besides, that man drew first.

Being smart, Wander picked the bow and quiver off the man. After spending a bit of time practicing shooting at trees, Wander now had the tools necessary to hunt and feed himself in the wilderness.

Coming from a nomadic race, and having a name that hints at nomadic tendencies, Wander went beyond The Fallow Mire, exploring Ferelden and hunting to survive as he went on. Soon, he arrived at the village of Crestwood. Here, he found the locals were quick to offer him a place of respite. They didn't question him about his eyes. Perhaps they didn't hear the news of Fisher's End.

Wander didn't remain at Crestwood however. He bid the locals farewell when he'd had his share of food, drink, and rest, then went on his way. After his time surviving in The Fallow Mire, Wander decided a life of civility wasn't a life for him. Though, before he left Crestwood, the blacksmith there provided him with daggers that were more suitable to combat, and a craftsman provided him with clean clothes. Then, it was goodbye for good. In leaving Crestwood, Wander left behind a simple life of living in one place. He's managed to survive quite a few years like this, always stopping at settlements when he came across them. Wander goes wherever it is the wind takes him. Now, it seems the wind has decided to take him to waking up in the middle of a wreckage with sharp objects pointed at him

Intro:

Soon after you had left Crestwood, you heard tale of the Conclave, and the possible peace between Mages and Templars. Even living in the remote outlands of Ferelden you would constantly hear of the toll the war was having.

Despite the Chantry's constant abuse of the Elven people across the ages, you find yourself sneaking into the Conclave to witness the fate of Thedas in the making, wondering and doubting if anything of your people would come up.

Upon arrival of the Conclave in the Temple of Sacred Ashes, however, an explosion of raw energy rips the ancient resting ground of Andraste's ashes asunder, leaving you as the only survivor.

After experiencing visions of a strange land, you find yourself chased by large, spider-like creatures as a golden figure becons for you, arm reached out.
"Hurry!" The figure shouts out in a woman's voice, the creatures drawing near as you begin to reach towards her.

Just as your hand makes contact, your eyes flicker open to reveal an entourage of armed soldiers surrounding you, blades drawn towards you. This only lasts for a moment, however, as you soon find the world growing dark around you and the ground quickly rushing up to greet your face.

Upon your second awakening, you look down to find yourself chained into a kneeling position, shackles around your legs and arms as a figure paces in front of you. Looking up, you first notice the bold white Maker's eye of the Andrastian Chantry emblazoned upon a set of armor, seemingly belonging to a female.

"Good, he's awake." She says, stopping to look at you. As she leaned down, you are able to see a deep scar marking her left cheek, accompanied by a crop of short black hair, appearing to have been hastedly cut with a dagger. "Who are you?" She asks simply

Ordinarily, I wouldn't have any isue with the symbol of the Andrastian Chantry staring at me. The fact that I have shackles around my legs and arms changes that though. I'm not awfully fond of being in a state of wholly not-free.

For a moment, I'm quiet as I try to go over what happened just now. Doing so makes my head hurt even more than it does right now. I'm sure all will be explained in time. That is, if I decide I feel like seeking an explanation.

Then, to the situation at hand. Short black hair and a scar. I don't find either of those to be very attractive. Clearly marks of a woman who cares more about being a warrior than being a female. Probably more interested in killing me than talking to me too. Best that I answer her.

"Wander," I tell her, hoping that my name was the answer she was looking for.

"Wander..." She says, more to herself than anything as she paused for thought. Only then did you notice the other figure, what appeared to be another female with dark hooded garments on lingering in the shadow, watching you. Only the chainmail on her skirt and the Maker's pendant glistening around her neck had given her away, otherwise letting her melt into the wall.

"The Conclave is destroyed. The Most Holy and all those in attendance now lie dead... except for you. Tell me why I shouldn't kill you right now." The scarred woman demands, hand going to her blade's hilt as she stared coldly at you.

I can't say I'm awfully skilled at trying to convince people not to kill me. That's mainly because I've never had to do something like that. Usually when people threaten me, my hands are free to go for my daggers and sink them into their body.

But that's not the case here. This woman really is more interested in killing me than talking, just like I thought. I don't think I'll have any chance to appeal to her. I turn my gaze to the woman hiding in the shadows.

"Please tell her not to kill me," I request.

As you acknowledge the other woman, the scarred warrior looks back at her, sighing as she was answered with a slight shake of the hidden woman's head.

"We need him, Cassandra." she said, stepping forward slightly, revealing the medium length of ginger hair.

Looking down at you, this 'Cassandra' grabs your left hand and holds it up, your palm suddenly bursting with a brilliant green glow eminating from what appeared to be a jagged scar. "Explain this." she demanded, roughly throwing your hand down after a moment.

I smile thankfully at the sweet ginger-headed girl. A nice girl. I'm not sure what she needs by 'needing' me. I don't know if I should be comfortable or concerned about that.

Regardless, my smile fades when my hand is grabbed by the ruder woman and she makes me look at the scar I'm fairly certain I didn't have before. I also don't think my hand was glowing either.

"It looks like a scar," I observe, "you have one too. I don't know why mine is glowing though."

Snarling at you, Cassandra grabs at her blade for a moment before sighing. "Smartass."

"Why do you speak as though you've never seen it before?" the other woman asks you.

Really, the redheaded one is far nicer and easier to deal with and talk to than Cassandra. Much more pleasant, and isn't quick to grab at a weapon after getting a response.

"Because I've never seen it before, until now that is," I say to the redheaded girl, "could I have your name?"

"You being in attendance to the Conclave considering you must ask who we are." she responds with a slight raise of her eyebrow in curiosity. "I am Nightingale Liliana, Left Hand of the late Divine." she says formally, then nodding at Cassandra as the warrior began to unshackle you.

"Come with me," Cassandra says, obviously struggling to act more polite. "You need to see this." she continued, handing you a heavy fur coat as she led you to the door.

I run my hands along my wrists as I try to relieve them from the discomfort of having been shackled. I'm not too keen on seeing whatever it is Cassandra wants me to see. Probably more swords. I don't really have a choice though. I pull the coat from Cassandra's hands and put it on as I follow her to the door.

Leading you outside, you find yourself greeting by the sharp coldness of mountain air as snow is falling around you. Point off to the distance, you see Cassandra motioning towards what could only be described as a large hole in the sky, a dull green glow surrounding it much like your palm.

"This is the Breach; It appeared shortly after the explosion at the Conclave and has been spitting out demons constantly." Cassandra explained. Before she could continue, a large green bolt of energy erupts from the Brach, causing a distant explosion to echo across the town. As the bolt appeared, you could feel a sudden jolt pulse through your left arm as your scar began to glow again, causing you to fall to your knees.

Helping you help, Cassandra looks at your palm and looks at you with what could almost be concern. "Each time it expands, your mark begins to glow; I believe whatever magic caused the hole, also may have put this on your hand. Maybe your mark is the key to stopping this, but there isn't much time."

I don't hate magic. Really, I don't. I don't have any issue with it. What I do have an issue with is magic putting weird glowing scars on my hand, tearing demon-spitting holes in the sky, and then putting me in a position where I'm in the general area of those holes.

"So what am I supposed to do?" I ask, staring up at the Breach, before turning to look at the person I directed my question to. That would be Liliana, not Cassandra.

"Go to the Breach, see if you can do anything to affect it; None of the surviving mages have been able to." Liliana explains, two armed guards soon joining you at Cassandra motioned for you to follow her.

"Come, it is not far." Cassandra said, guiding you away from the keep as Liliana disappeared back inside.

Walking through the surrounding town, a multitude of tired and restless people begin to stop and stare at you. Every gaze directed towards you was filled with hate and disgust as men and women alike paused at your passing.

"They have decided your guilt. The people need this. But, fixing the Breach may be a good step towards proving innocence." Cassandra explained to you in a quiet whisper, continuing to lead you through the town until you began approaching a large bridge stretching over a frozen ravine.

I frown a bit at the departing of Liliana, then went on to follow Cassandra. I don't think that's the last I'll be seeing of the redheaded girl.

As I walk through the town, I force myself to look down on the ground so I don't glare at the angry townsfolk and lead to them throwing a rock at me.
"'May be?'" I ask in a whisper, "are these people so upset that fixing a demonic hole in the sky might not be enough to appease them?"

"Most of the Chantry lies dead and in ruin, and the only hope for peace also lies in such state." Cassandra said somberly as she led you across the bridge. "They are desperate and without guidance. Right now, they only want justice." She added, then shouting for the gate to be opened.

"It's not much further than here. Keep close."

"I hope you're not planning on giving them the exact 'justice' they're looking for," I comment. They probably want my head in a basket and not attached to my body. I don't think I'm ready to say Cassandra isn't willing to do that for them.

I stay reasonably close to the gate and continue to follow her to the Breach.

"This is not the only Breach, it is only the largest. And as it expands, more of these smaller tears begin to appear and spit out demons. Prove you can help, and you may yet live."

As you continue up the mountain path, a few soldier run past you in the opposite direction while screaming about the end of the world. Looking jp at the Breach, you feel another jolt launch through your arm as a group of comets begin falling into the landscape around you.

"Do you remember nothing at all?" Cassandra asks you after a moment of walking. "The soldiers, they say you fell out of a rift, one of these tears, with what appeared to be a woman behind you. She did not come through, though; No one knows who she was."

Comets and people shouting about the endtimes. Not something I like to see when I first head outside of a keep after being shackled and threatened. It's even worse with the possibility that I might be killed if I don't fix this.

"I don't remember a thing besides getting sharp objects pointed at me," I lie. Not too interested in talking to Cassandra about recent events that I can barely remember. Actually, I'm not too interested in talking to Cassandra at all. I may have some issues with holding grudges, but she did chain me up against my will.

"Fair enough." She responds curtly, continuing to guide the small group until you began crossing over another small bridge. As you begin to reach the middle, however, another large blast from the Breach sends a comet landing atop the bridge, causing you to fall several yards down into the ravine.

Struggling back to your feet, you see Cassandra and one other guard begin to stand as she looks over at you. "You okay?" She asks, then turning around quickly as the air behind her began crackling with small green sparks. After a slight moment, an ugly creature of pure shadow pulls itself out of the ground beneath the sparks, glowing ember eyes looking over at Cassandra as it uttered a blood-chilling cry.

"Stay behind me!" She shouted, pulling out sword and shield as she rushed to meet the demon. As she and the guard left you, however, another area of green sparks began emanating shortly in front of you, another demon appearing and turning it's head towards you.

Looking around quickly, you spot what appears to be a weapon crate, an assortment of blades spilling out of it, including a matching set of daggers. Near the crate lies a dead soldier, bow still clutched in his hand with quiver slung over his back.

"I'm fine," I say as I start to stand up. I'm momentarily startled by the noise of the demon, then find myself more startled by Cassandra's shout. I look towards the demon that appeared and is interested in looking at me.

That guard should've stayed here with me. I can take care of myself though. I don't think fist-fighting a demon is a very good idea. Seeing the weapons, I hurry over and grab the bow and quiver, slinging them both over my back. I then grab the two daggers and turn to face the demon, moving in to attack it with a slash from both blades.

Quickly taking your newly acquired weapons to the demon, you dance around its side so as to dodge the dark claws that were swung at you. Though the battle had only started, you can feel a dip in energy as you sink the dagger into the demon's side. After a few more quick attacks on the demon soon drops the monstrosity, suddenly making you feel much more alive as you feel your fatigue disappearing.

After the demon is slain, you look up to see Cassandra as the only survivor of their fight, the other guarc lying dead as she quickly approached you with sword drawn.

"Drop your weapon. Now!" She demanded, blade pointed at you.

[New CODEX Entry!]
1) Creature: Shade Demon
It has often been suggested that the onlu way for a demon to affect the living world is by possessing a living (or one living) body, but this is not always true. Indeed, a Shade demon is one such creatre; A demon in it's true form that has adapted to affect the world around it.
These demons watch, they lurk, and they envy. After enough time in the living world, a Shade demon will begin to learn to drain energy from those it encounters, just as it had done in the Fade.

I take a few breaths after having killed the demon. That wasn't too difficult at all. With the demon dead, I turn to look at Cassandra and the weapon she's hiding behind. I've been in this exact position before. Except now, I have weapons too.

"I'm not going to do that. I'm not a threat to you right now. If I wanted you dead I'd have stabbed you in the back."

Cassandra glares at you for a moment before nodding and sheathing her weapon.

"You have a point," she says, something that was obviously hard for her to admit. "Besides, I can't protect you, nor can I expect you to be defenseless." she then adds, turning to look at your surroundings as you stood on what appeared to be a frozen river.

"Come then, we must hurry. There will be more soldiers fighting as we get closer, and we must help them."

She's quick to tell me what I 'must' be doing. I don't have a choice though unless I feel like killing Cassandra. But then I'd really be in trouble and really get executed.

"Lead on then," I say, sheathing my weapons and preparing to follow Cassandra.
