It's fine if you disagree, please read before Replying!
Roblox is a pretty good tool for making games. It's simple enough, and it's free. The only problem is, whether you like it or not, it's aimed at kids, and it's unlikely that they'll want to learn Lua. Scripting can also be a problem for people who don't have a very good memory, or are just generally not great at that type of thing.
I'm not saying make a load of stuff to use without scripting. What I'm suggesting is a block-based scripting language, similar to Scratch, but with Lua written on them instead, and something explaining what they do if you right click on them or something. You would still have the option to type.
I think that this could be great for learning Lua, as well as making Roblox itself something that could potentially be used for education. With the Lua written on the blocks, people could eventually memorize it and move on to typing it, and then they'd have a skill that is potentially useful outside of Roblox.
It would probably have to be a little watered down, but it could still be very useful.
People are probably going to complain that it will make it easier to make games, but isn't that a good thing? It could raise the standard of games, and it would make using free models less likely as it could make scripting fun for people who are confused by it.
It could also reduce bullying, as people who use free models tend to get harshly criticized (although chances are they don't realize that using free models is considered a bad thing).
If you don't support, please say why :) |

While this way makes it easier for some, simply dragging blocks isn't learning, as I'd prefer them to actually learn the proper way, because that is how it is in the real world, but it WILL make people less confused.

this is just like that stupid kid mode idea a couple months ago
no support
dragging blocks of code is NOT how you learn to program, if you need to learn to program, experiment yourself and type it out.... |

scratch is not scripting. lua is scripting. lua is a good way to teach developers how to program, yet scratch teaches them almost nothing other than "drag this here". lua is very easy to pick up if you just take the time to learn it.

lua is pretty much one of the easiest languages, we cant just practically do all the work for people who want to learn to script
if you think it should be easier, you obviously don't actually want to learn, you aren't determined, and you don't have the right mindset for it
its already pretty easy if you put your mind to it and are determined to script |

no.
it's not fair to just hand some knowledge over to younger kids. if they want to script, they have to learn it first without someone handing it to them.
again, if people want to script that fine. but we're not going to simply hand it to them. if they want to script, they have to learn it like everyone else did.
kids need to learn to do things themselves, rather than have everything handed to them. they're not going to get things handed to them in the real world.
plus, the roblox wiki is a thing for a reason. this idea would demolish the need for a wiki, which is place people can go to learn the scripting.
easier scripting shouldn't be made.
I think I proved my point.

@Rita
They are trying to say that if you want to learn scripting, learn it the proper way, because in the real world, you have a keyboard, and you type some code. They don't give you colored blocks that you are supposed to drag.

Lol
this would take like a year to do'
+there is so many options for ROBLOX to do scripting wise, that it will never have all the options.
And to the criticizers,
Some people have a gift that they learn scripting well
Rather, most don't. And slapping a YT video in front of us will have us walking away more confused than before.
I like the idea, but ROBLOX has better things to work on.

No support, I completed mastered scratch by teaching myself it in around 5 hours of school lesson time, I think learning lua is better and more educational and I am learning it myself. Basically, learn lua and you can go on to other things like c++, learn scratch and, well, be happy?

first of all
on that stupid kid mode idea a couple months ago, all the supporters were saying that some people have a talent/gift that they learn scripting well
no
I'm pretty sure there is not a "coding gift" that people have when they are born
the people that you think are "gifted" are actually just people who were determined to learn how to script
the people that aren't "gifted" are the people who wanted to learn, but they weren't determined
also, rita, you can be 100% pure dumb and still learn how to script
we aren't saying that scripting is only for smart people
we're just saying that scripting in for smart and and dumbnuts that can actually put their mind to scripting, and are determined to script
your idea will make it so that people who don't really want to script and aren't determined can still do it, and that's trashy because you really should only learn to script if you're determined
please get some logic |

I have bad memory when it comes to this kind of thing and I understand your point. However, dragging blocks isn't scripting and it's better to LEARN scripting (the hard way)

I really support the idea, but the only problem is that skilled scripters who have been coding Lua for years would be brought down to just some random every day Dev. Otherwise, I completely support.
