I want to pack Dungeon Punk, fantasy, EBR's "Statosphere" game, and the 1920s-1930s setting and tone into one RP. Think elves living in high mansions on floating islands, hosting parties on every occasion. Think 1930s ga'ngst'ers, but with dwarves, and a black market that profits from precious metals and bottled magic sp'ic'es. Think railroads connecting various floating islands, powered by air or electrically operated magic instead of burned coal, and airliners powered by fire elementals instead of steam engines. Think a "R'e'd Scare" among the floating islands fueled by rumors of war and ana'rchy.
For a definition of dungeon punk:
"Welcome to Dungeon Punk, a Punk Punk genre which tries to apply the gritty, cynical tone of Cyber Punk and Steam Punk to a Heroic Fantasy setting. Usually, this takes the maxim "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" and turns it on its head. As we get more proficient with the use of magic, it takes on characteristics of technology. We have railroads, but instead of burning coal to work a steam engine, they have a bound air elemental. We have radios, but instead of sending electromagnetic waves across space, they work by sympathetic magic. Instead of fighter pilots, air forces will train Dragon Riders."
Essentially, it's magitek (combining magic with modern tech, or in our case, 1920s tech) but focused in a more cynical environment with grittier realities.

What would you say to a role-play like this? |

splendid!
I was thinking, to add to the cynical effect, perhaps the world below these floating islands contains only remnants and traces of past civilizations, all lost to a global war that forced the surviving few into floating islands (whether artificial or natural, it doesn't matter) that float serenely above the lands ravaged by war below. Perhaps it could have been an unavoidable war, if not for the corrupt and avaricious instigators (politicians and other figures of high statuses). |

| Or, the world could be one sprawling desert with no traces of intelligent life or civilization, which just begs the question, Why are the islanders here, floating on organic and mountainous landmasses that in no way mirror the planet they exist in? |

Question for anyone willing to answer:
How large should a single island be? I'm thinking of having twelve main islands, but I don't know how big they should be. I feel that even US state-sized islands would be too large. I don't know. |

"ISRP or regular RP?"
Not sure yet. To be honest, I don't know how something like this might function as an ISRP, unless you have any suggestions. Haven't yet decided on a plot, either. |

Maybe some anarchists mean to assassinate the governor of the islands.
Or maybe some revolutionaries mean to collect and hoard the magical properties that operate the tech and keep the islands afloat. |

| I think that first idea will lead to a lot more interesting political intrigue and plot-points if it were put into an ISRP. I actually like that idea a lot. |

| Alright. Should this disdain for authority have any historical context? Perhaps a pattern of corrupt leadership since the islands are fairly small and easily conquerable? |

| I think that'd be good. It'd probably allow you to put some racial and cultural tensions into the ISRP, if you're willing to go that route. It'd also make it easier to sympathize with the anarchists' cause. |

I agree, it would. Also, by racial, do you mean the races that will be present in this RP (elves, dwarves, and men) or the actual human races? Just wanted to make sure.
One more question- are you going to be interested in being an anarchist, or something different? I need to know how I'm going to frame this RP.
Actually, another question- how do you feel about cooperative ISRPs? I don't think I can manage several of these. One may be hard enough with my senior project deadline looming ahead of me.
Or, I can just make one solo ISRP, and that be it. Sad news for everyone else, but... |

Races present in this RP for racial tension. Maybe, if you really wanted to, you could have racism between subraces (think: high elves and wood elves, black and white humans, so on).
I'd probably be playing a character who is an outsider to everything and hasn't made a choice on who to side with.
I'm really not keen on cooperative ISRPs, so I'd prefer if everybody else just got left in the dust and I'm the only person who gets to have fun. |

Okay, that's what I thought you meant. And your other idea is another possibility.
And I was hoping you'd say outsider. I think leaving the anarchy business as mere rumor adds to the foreboding and gritty effect that I'm going for.
And lastly, if you say so. Poor blokes won't get to kick some anarchist booty. :( I'll probably make an exception for Birm since he expressed some interest. |

@LeBlaster-
I don't know if it'll have much humor. I'm going for a pretty somber tone.
It's supposed to mirror the grittiness of the early 20th century in respect to the illicit gang activity, the corrupt elite, the discontent of the proletariat, the Red Scare, etc. etc. |

Oh, I see. But what if one makes a comedic character with a sense of humor that involves somber tones and cracks jokes at the most inappropriate times?
I would show more interest if the race of Rock Golems were available, but if not, I'm still quite interested. Could the Rock Golem race be related in this somehow? Perhaps they could be incorporated in an odd way that still connects with the setting and type of time. |

One last question, Z0rrow, before I call it a night-
How prepared are you (plot-wise and setting-wise) before you begin managing an ISRP? I've never truly hosted one before, and I'm not sure how much development I'll need to do beforehand. I'll probably do some before the RP begins anyway because I'm the sort of writer that needs some structure and organization, but I don't want to get carried away with detail. |

I can't see anything wrong with a comedic character. It's just the plot and setting that won't have any humorous qualities about them.
Not sure about rock golems, but I'll think about it. I probably won't get around to making this until... Monday, so I'll have some time to brainstorm.
And I suppose you can take Birm's slot, heh. I don't want to host many of these. I've got a pretty busy schedule. |
