It had been ages since the fall of the Empire.
What once had existed as a sprawling nation and a pinnacle of collective endeavors had been reduced to near dust. The universe was a large place - and Acadians found themselves scattered across it as their worlds rapdily fell, one after another, to invading armies. Their home-world, Arcadia, having been nearly destroyed in the aftermath of the Vaktovian conflict, their space fleet in shambles, and, its leader having perished, was nothing more than a memory in the minds of its citizens.
And yet, the idea of Arcadia would prevail.
Years passed, and while many names were lost to the ever expanding domain of space, many Arcadians never lost grasp of Arcadian values. They banded together, fought together, and created a new nation together that would attempt to succeed where as the Imperium had failed. From the ashes of the old arose a new nation: The Federation of Arcadia, which would succeed in reclaiming many of Arcadia's lands.
----
The screen on the projector went black. The blank and bored faces of the Arcadian Initaties in training looked onward as the Commissar retold the events of Arcadian history. One particularly abash soldier yawned obnoxiously.
"Why exactly do we have to learn all this? Can't we just go out in fight?"
The rest of the troop, mostly teenagers who found themselves wanting to become of the new Federation army, giggled. Standing up, the Commissar slowly approached the laughing soldier.
"You'll watch your tone, Initiate Seliso. Your fellow soldiers fought and they killed and they died for a nation you now get to rebuild. To forget our values is to lose sight of future. Is that understood, Initiate?"
He sighed, monotonically replying.
"Yeah, sorry about that sir, won't happen again."
The lecture went on for some time, and Seliso watched the nearby atomic clock, counting down until the end of his lecture. 2:48....2:54....2:59...
At 3:00, the intercom buzzed, and the young Initiate found himself quickly dashing out of lecture. All around him, Arcadians walked back and forth. Hundreds of them, all gathered here simultaneously.
While it had taken dozens of resources and planetary loans, it was truly a spectacle to see Arcadia's spacefleet up and running once more. This particular ship, Corona-Prime, existed as nothing less than a training vessel, designed to house the thousands of new recruits that flooded into the Federation after its creation.
Seliso found himself drawn to the window nearby. Arcadians buzzing all around him, he pressed his hands on the ship's cold glass. Arcadia. It really had prevailed, hadn't it? Looking outwards, the accompanying space-fleet around Corona-Prime filled Seliso with determination. Finally, after so much work, after so much turmoil - Arcadia had once again prevailed through.
His introspection, however, was cut brutally short by Commandant Ultru, Seliso's training regime leader. Flanked by fellow Initiates, Ultru's tone was sneer and mocking.
"Slacking again, Seliso? No surprise, knowing you. Now stop daydreaming, it's time for our daily drills."
Briskly taking off towards the equipment rooms, Seliso briskly followed, not wanting to disappoint the Commandant. Passing through several straight metallic halls and past the primary atrium, Ultru led the squadron of Initiates into the equipment room.
"Alright Arcadians, you know the drill. Just like any other day, suit up."
Seliso tentatively approached a nearby gear rack. Dozens of weapons lined each one. Picking up a famed Reaper-8, Seliso examined its stock, admiring its deliberate design. He found himself lost in examining the structure of the gun, it's function - it's design. He had also wanted to be a part of creating technology himself, and he found the nature of the weapon fascinating. He continued to look at it, only to be interrupted by a blaring siren that filled the stage.
Voices of confusion rung throughout the room. The intercom went off immediately after, it's shrill adding to the cacophony of noises.
"ALERT, ALERT. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. ARCADIANS, REPORT TO ALL STATIONS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL."
Seliso found himself in a panic. Grabbing a nearby rifle, he took off, heading towards the bridge. While he was only an initiate, he had been gifted with the technical expertise to be allowed to help coordinate the situation in the main control room. Running at furious speed, he sped by confused Arcadians who were running back and forth, some of them too confused by the situation to be having any idea where to go.
Bursting into the control room, he took his seat at the Warp-drive capacitor. He was the only one who knew how to work it. Sitting at his post, nearby Officers yelled at each other.
"How did they find us here..there's no way.."
"The Vaktovians? They're here?"
"It cant be.."
The voices of peril, accompanied by the screen in the control room made the situation all too clear.
The Vaktovians had returned.
Sitting at the forefront of the control room was Consul member Shadownize. Calmly tapping his fingers, he looked across the room at his subordinates. Debating the situation within his head, he stood up, pacing himself to the front of the room.
"Arcadians, prepare for warp-drive. We will not perish here."
The command, while brisk, was all too clear. They would run to live another day. While the Vaktovians would surely follow to finish the job, Corona Prime's warp-drive capacitors would ensure that they would at least escape the battle today.
Taking the hint, Seliso looked over his warp-drive panel. This was his responsibility. He was the one who knew how to operate it. He fidgeted, and began to sweat. His knees weak and his palms sweaty, he went over the dozens of situations within his mind. What if he messed up? What if the ship was destroyed because of him? What if he died here? What if the Vaktovians caught up?
His questions started to cascade in him mind, and he couldn't focus. He started to rapidly breath, and all of a sudden he felt a hand on the back of his shoulder.
He turned around, and there stood the Consul member, Shadownize.
"I have literally asked you to go into overdrive."
And so Seliso configured the system, disregarding his fears, and went for it. He would not let his fears get the best of him - Arcadians would live to see another day.

It's good for a beginner, but I've read dozens of Arcadian stories.
This sounds like another classic case of VAK-TGI strife which plays on the uphill battle scenario. |

if people are going to read the comments without reading the story the premise that this may be mildly entertaining should at least get people to read it. let's be honest, very few people read lore stories unfortunately.
but yes i'll stop

you sound like the vak members that bragged about killing tober in the beginning of the tgi-vak war
went along the lines of "i have x amount of confirmed kill on tober" - rando af vak member
my response "x amount of servers confirmed vaktus is not in"
but i wont even bother giving you a smartass reply, you dont even deserve it |
