just doing the season standings, playoffs is way way way too early
:::AMERICAN LEAGUE:::
:EAST: 1. Toronto Blue Jays 2. Baltimore Orioles 3. New York Yankees 4. Boston Red Sox 5. Tampa Bay Rays
i can dream that the yankees will not make the playoffs, can't i? i think the orioles have made some good moves (albeit expensive moves) on offense, namely making locking up davis for a long time and picking up some more offense. the blue jays are still an incredibly strong team and i have them as a heavy favorite to win the east. red sox will continue to rebuild and should be a presence again in the next 2-3 years.
:CENTRAL: 1. Detroit Tigers 2. Kansas City Royals 3. Chicago White Sox 4. Minnesota Twins 5. Cleveland Indians
i like the justin upton acquisition in detroit. zimmermann will also be a big help to their pitching staff, i can see him quickly becoming the #1 or #2 guy in their rotation during spring training. i think the sox, twins, and indians will resume their roles in mediocrity while the royals remain competitive in the division.
:WEST: 1. Houston Astros 2. Texas Rangers 3. Los Angeles Angels 4. Seattle Mariners 5. Oakland Athletics
the west has been pretty quiet this offseason. most of these squads are showing signs of age, especially the rangers who are basically waiting for a devastating season of injuries to their older dudes like fielder, hamilton, etc. houston, however, is a very young team and i think that they will make some good use of their age this year.
:::NATIONAL LEAGUE:::
:EAST: 1. Washington Nationals 2. New York Mets 3. Miami Marlins 4. Philadelphia Phillies 5. Atlanta Braves
i can already hear the mets fans: "we made the world series, the nationals suck!!!" but the mets made it to the world series because of one man, and if you think otherwise you're a dope. that man's name: daniel murphy. where is murphy playing in 2016? washington. case in point. the other 3 teams in the division are irrelevant, unfortunately. cespedes will be interesting to watch for a full season, as he was a big boost to the team's run to the playoffs in the last 3 or so months, but he can't carry the mets. harper back to back MVP seasons, calling it now.
:CENTRAL: 1. St. Louis Cardinals 2. Chicago Cubs 3. Pittsburgh Pirates 4. Milwaukee Brewers 5. Cincinnati Reds
this is the best division in baseball, topheavy as it is. it's going to be exicting to see how the central plays out, but i think the st. louis dynasty continues to dominate. the cubs will make a good run at it this year with a little more experience under their belts as the young guys (bryant, rizzo) start to take charge. the pirates will continue their recent streak of being good, but i can't see them taking out the cards or the cubs this year.
:WEST: 1. San Francisco Giants 2. Los Angeles Dodgers 3. Colorado Rockies 4. San Diego Padres 5. Arizona Diamondbacks
even year prophecy continues, the giants get back in business after a disappointing 2015. the dodgers basically print money so they will continue to be relevant, but the rest of the division is a snoozefest. the rockies could get something going because they have a really talented unit, but i don't see it happening in an even year and against the yankees of the west coast. |

| kinda skeptical on your ranking of Red Sox, of course I say that because im a Red Sox fan but the fact that mookie betts is underrated and could have a shot at AL mvp if he continues what he did last season and if Red Sox get to playoffs, plus red sox will try their hardest especially for ortiz's last season. Plus with the addition of price, we could have a shot getting into playoffs but he just needs to focus better when it comes to playoffs. |

NL East is wrong. You think Murphy got us to the world series alone? How about the best pitching rotation in baseball

@Cheesey Murphy is a decent hitter and a bad fielder. He just caught ifre in playoffs. He's gonna hit 10 HR's next season and bat .280.

If the Tigers can get it together, it should come down to a close race between them and the Royals.

"looks pretty good except daniel murphy is complete garbage and so are the nats (aside from harper)"
we need him less for offense than we do for defense, which is what he happens to be better than ian desmond at
and murphy is essentially desmond's replacement, even if they don't play the same position. our infield was overcrowded, we had 5 or 6 infielders and now we've got a clear starting 4. desmond had 27 errors in 2015, murphy only had 6. i'll take that any day.
"This is coming from a phillies fan - no way Braves are worse than us were gonna finish in last like every season"
the NL east has one of the worst bottoms of the division in baseball right now. marlins, phillies, or braves could all finish in last place. the braves just overhauled their roster again and a quick read of mlbtraderumors shows us that Freddie Freeman is the only player remaining from their division winning 2013 staff. basically, the phillies have been rebuilding for a little longer for the braves and i think that they will finish slightly ahead, but it's going to be a race for last place in the NL.
"mookie betts is underrated and could have a shot at AL mvp"
err ok, mookie is a good player but serious MVP contender i don't know, he finished 19th in the voting in 2015. batting .291 isn't gonna win many trophies.
"red sox will try their hardest especially for ortiz's last season."
ortiz is leaned on too much in boston, especially for his age. they might do O.K. this season but i see them struggling in a big way if they don't find a real replacement for big papi.
"the addition of price"
price needs to stop sleeping around in the AL east. i think it catches up to him eventually. he's been coached by half of the other teams in the division, they've got to know how to get inside his head by now.
"NL East is wrong. You think Murphy got us to the world series alone?"
daniel murphy NLDS/NLCS stats: .410 BA, 7 HR, 11 RBI World Series stats: .150 BA, 0 HR, 0 RBI
yes i think that murphy carried you through the NLDS and NLCS and then didn't show up in the world series and you got trucked by KC. cespedes is the reason that NYM made it to the playoffs, murphy is the reason they made it to the world series.
"How about the best pitching rotation in baseball"
your young arms have some serious injury concerns, especially harvey. the same thing happened to the "best rotation in baseball" a couple years ago in D.C., and they admittedly weren't so dominant because of it.
"If the Tigers can get it together, it should come down to a close race between them and the Royals."
i agree. they are a great team on paper, things just sort of fell apart last year. |

Uhh NYM had a lead in every game, the bullpen blew it late, they didn't get trucked.

| honestly, unless the orioles get a starting pitcher i dont see us getting second. our offense is fine but with a rotation of gonzalez, tillman, jimenez, gausman, and a combination of worley/wilson/wright/maybe even matusz, i just dont see us getting second. i hope we win the division but i dont think we will. |

"they didn't get trucked."
4-1
"honestly, unless the orioles get a starting pitcher i dont see us getting second."
the orioles and the jays are essentially the only teams who are not rebuilding right now in the AL east
the orioles have been buying a LOT in the past couple years and their farm system is hurting because of it, so it's gonna be a now-or-never type push for the coming years while they have a good amount of guys locked up on contracts |

going to give myself some rankings
100% means every single pick is correct
essentially correct means i have the top team right and all of the other teams correct to 1 spot. i.e. 2 and 3 are switched but the rest are correct
mostly correct means some of the teams are swapped, i.e. 1 and 2; 4 and 5
half and half means i got some wrong and some right
incorrect means that most of the picks are wrong
update:
AL East: essentially correct AL Central: half and half AL West: mostly correct
NL East: essentially correct NL Central: mostly correct NL West: 100% |
