and you want the username "cats" or something, but it's already been taken so you take cats43674362864
"cats" got that username before anyone else could -- they sniped it. you could argue that every username is a snipe because no two people can have the same name, and i guess that's true. but a username that nobody will ever use like iamcatfart3726831 is NOT a namesnipe. the best namesnipes are those with high demand; snipes like "cool" or john". some snipes are medium-demand, like "excellent" or "fart"
so we can rank namesnipes by how popular they are. usernames like "idonenoscopedmlk" are NOT namesnipes because they have no demand.

the very word "namesnipe" suggests the whole point is to get a name before anyone else can
not some 0-demand word nobody knows

either way there are less words in the dictionary than there are people in the world
so getting one out of the dictionary with no editing/replacements is a pretty good accomplishment |

if its a namesnipe its a namesnipe doesnt have to be cool to qualify theres like a tier system among namesnipes, the boring ones, middle ranks, then the cool ones
a perigone is an inner piece inside of some flowers and is an actual thing with its own definition, its a name snipe though im probably the only person who admires the name

| I don't consider my name a namesnipe, but I still like it. It's unique. |

When I make usernames for sites, I usually use 'h99' or 'h85' at the end of my username on purpose
I didn't even bother to check and see if ethanh was taken

i dont really see what the big deal is about it anyway
if you got a cool username, you got a cool username. doesnt need to be "sniped" to be good. if someone made a post on an account made 1 day ago with a pretty in demand name and just said "LOL namesniper xD" then never came online again i wouldnt care at all yet somebody like princessmidna, varple, caketrooper, crazymadwolf, blokstormy101, zakro, prind12, vienna456 qwazolla, mangocelty - i could list them for hours. all arguably very stupid names that make no sense but yet they made them cool by having a good charisma about them. namesnipes are cool but if youre not actually gonna use it as an alias to identify with i dont see the point in fretting about it. |

yet there being roughly near a quarter million words in the dictionary, it isn't enough either |

this is about how stupid the current definition of namesnipe is

not every account is going to be a dictionary word, man
most of them will be [word][numbers]
but those are the accounts that make namesnipes worthwhile
