I think that ROBLOX should come out on Xbox 360/one and should come out on the Ps3/Ps4. I think this, for them, and us, would bring in many benifits. This would increase the amount of players which in turn, because they are cheaper then high end computers and has a good CPU and a good GPU. I think that ROBLOX should come out on the next gen consoles and the PS3, and the 360.

It would bring in more money for them because there would be more players that have the nessacairy specs to run graphics at high end. Although I do bleieve we'd have to wait a few years before we get studio on consoles.

No support. There are 14 buttons on a PS3 controller. Now count the amount of buttons on your computer. See my point? If you argue they did it with mobile, it is easier to make a Computer based game into a mobile device. Touch screen can make ALOT of things work.

Neither Xbox One nor PS4 run on or support Lua. In other words, not possible.

Uh they don't use Lua to make the game that's what we use the ROBLOX developers use far superior programming languages than Lua and games would be adapted like ROBLOX mobile edition.

A LOT* (there's a space)
Irony is that you argue about buttons, yet on the touch screen devices, or at least iPod and iPads, don't have any "buttons" . Now, you say it's easier to port a game from computer to a mobile device? Wrong. It's much easier to port to a console, in the aspect that mostly all you need to do is make it more efficient for the target console's specs. This means, making a game than requires 4GB RAM, 2 GHz processor and a decent graphics card, it's more likely to get ported to a console WAAAYYY before any phones (if it ever does) and even if it does, the gameplay will be very limited compared to the computer version.

"Neither Xbox One nor PS4 run on or support Lua. In other words, not possible."

THIS IS THE MOST STUPID THING ANYONE CAN SAY. I SWEAR YOU GUYS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT COMPUTERS/ELECTRONICS AND LUA/SCRIPTING.

Every time someone posts one of these ideas, some idiot spouts this out thinking they're so right, when they're so wrong, making others believe them. Lua, doesn't naturally run on any computer to begin with. It must be compiled OR interpreted. It's mostly used as a scripting language, so it's never compiled. Since it's never compiled it's interpreted by a program, in this case the game. Example of an Xbox game that uses Lua would be Far Cry 1.

Although, I disagree with this idea.

There is support.

By example: Clicking Select on PS3 controller will come up to type a message then click start to send it. Also there is an ad-on for that.

Left toggle to move. Left to look around. Very left key pad to access your inventory. X to jump.
And much more.

Read my post below. Also you aren't in ROBLOX Studio for Lua and they make it conpatible. Because on the iPad first it was not conpatible but they made it! So things are possable for changes. Just do bug fixes...

But my post below talks about ways to make it work and what buttons for what. So you aren't right also.

How do we convert player-made scripts from PC to console?
It's not as simple as it sounds. PC to mobile is easy (due to touch screen being as a mouse and a keyboard), but PC to console for a game like this is difficult.

Mythine, it's very simple to convert controls from PC to controller. Mobile is a very good example of why it isn't hard.

Not to mention Lua has always been available to consoles.

If it wasn't hard, they would've released it by now.

And ROBLOX is a free game, where the income is made out of premium purchases.
If they were to release ROBLOX for console, a fraction would go to Sony/Microsoft, which is unnecessary as most players who would play a console version would be original PC players, only losing income.
And what's the point of making a console version when you have the easy PC version? To attract new players? And think about cross-platform play. Most console games doesn't have that, and plus, the new PSN (for PS4) and the old Xbox Live are pay-to-play. Who would spend cash to play ROBLOX online when they can play online on the convenient PC for free?

Allow us to set keys for each button
So crouching (G) could be square, and circle could be grenades (G)
etc...

There is enough space to make anything happen.
I can't think of a single game (On roblox) that needs more than 14 buttons (Except chat)
You could even make Triangle cycle between weapons.

This would bring in a lot of revenue for roblox.

Also, don't argue about functionality, that's not the point of this thread, argue about whether you want it or not.
I'm sure none of you know how to even make a game, let alone knowing if it would run or not.

You don't understand how licensing works for consoles. IF you plan on publishing say, through Microsoft for Xbox, you don't pay them for your game. You receive a certain percentage and they receive a certain percentage. If you don't go through publishing, all you pay for is their development kits.

With that said, you DON'T have to publish the game for money. Look at Roblox's app on the iTunes app store. It's free. To put an app on the app store, Google has you pay $100/year. Google has you pay a onetime fee of $25 for PlayStore. The Xbox Live Arcade is $100 too.

It's not as hard as making them for mobile devices, they wouldn't have to do as much optimizing and minimizing on the game engine. Most of the modern and all of the nextgen consoles will be able to support current or slightly optimized versions of Roblox. And without very much modifying on the code. For scripts, its simple, in fact they already have it possible to detect if there's a game pad or not.

if game:GetService("UserInputServerice").MouseEnabled or game:GetService("UserInputServerice").KeyboardEnabled then

-- PC or Mac with keyboard.

elseif game:GetService("UserInputServerice").TouchEnabled then

-- Mobile device or PC with touch screen

elseif game:GetService("UserInputServerice").GamepadEnabled then

-- PC with game controller, or could be Xbox 360, PS3?

end

You're not getting my point.

Microsoft and Sony would want a share out of the income made by premium memberships.
And with that, the new PSN for PS4 and Xbox Live require a paid membership to play online.
Why not play ROBLOX online for free (excluding paid memberships) on PC?
A console version wouldn't bring many players in, as the functions are restricted (player-made scripts to execute certain actions may not be available on console, site navigation problems, cross platform play issue, etc.).
A key such as to throw a grenade in a player-made script being "G" can also be "C", "T", etc. A separate script would be needed to add in the key to the controller. That's also why some games aren't playable on mobile.

Look, a console version will only make a drain in income.
It's up to the staff to decide, not us.

If it would make a positive effect for ROBLOX, they would've done it already.

Roblox could work better with a WiiU/DS.
