BOTH are/were global superpowers with a massive, overreaching influence on world culture,
BOTH are/were relatively imperialistic in nature, with a strong focus on their military,
BOTH are/were famed for their technological achievements and affluent populations,
BOTH are/were also highly aristocratic in nature with rather large wealth gaps,
BOTH have/had a massive abundance of cheap food and entertainment to please the populace.

And probably never will.
At least in our lifetime

No nation lasts forever. The United States will eventually meet its end in some way, whether violently or peacefully, or a decade from now, or 1,000 years from now.

In all honesty, all superpowers usually disappear by around the 300 year mark. Also, like the Roman Empire, the US has been putting increased focus on entertainment over everything else.
A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. |

@red
I forgot to mention:
Both the USA and the Roman Empire have/had an incredibly violent and barbaric game that was/is loved by the populace.
(Though to be fair, gladitorial combat is far more violent than football.)

| I would hardly say football is a violent sport. If we're going there, it'd probably be most suitable to include MMA. |

Actually a fun fact:
Some buildings in the US were inspired by Greek/Roman architecture
