A while ago I 'discovered' about tulpas, which as like imaginary friends with their own feelings and opinions. They can talk and think just like we do, but we don't control them like when we create a character or an imaginary friend. For example, they may be able to help you on your homework, but you can't force your tulpa to help you, just like a real friend might not want to help you with your homework. There is a tulpa community on reddit that shows dozens of guides on how to make your own tulpa, each different to help you get started. You can give tulpas whichever form you like, but if you decide to it the form of maybe a cartoon character, it might cause identity problems for your tulpa.
I havent yet made a tulpa, but heres how to find the community:
I'm not allowed to post off-site links, so just go on reddit and add /r/Tulpas, or search in Google "reddit Tulpas" to find the tulpa community.
Good luck, and let me know how it goes! I'll try to answer any questions you might have. |

I once had six simultaneous arguments with myself and someone said that I might potentially be a tulpamancer for managing to do that.

I bet that the entire concept of tulpas on the internet was created to justify a schizophrenic person not taking his medication.

Having a tulpa means you have schizophrenia or a low form of schizophrenia.
Basically you imagine something infront of you atleast 1 hour a day and eventually it will become it's own thought. Yes, it can do what it wants.

Some people say they got beaten and r a p e d by their tulpa |

No, it's deeper than that.
Having a tulpa means you have a mental illness like schizophrenia |

| According to the ever accurate and entirely trustworthy Wikipedia, Tulpas are creatures from Indian mysticism that are summoned through mental discipline. It also says the use of Tulpas as sentient, imaginary friends is a recent addition to the Internet, and seems to have little to do with the actual practice. |

@Z0rr0w
I have Schizoaffective disorder (similar to schizophrenia) and while a person who creates a tulpa may not have schizophrenia, they are definitely psychotic and probably delusional. And I've educated myself on these words, so please realize that I don't use them flippantly. |

Pretty sure you don't want imaginary friends anyway, lily
Although actual friends can be a pain in the ass, it's probably better than going crazy for the sake of imaginary friends who act like real friends anyways. |

So I asked a friend of mine from India about Tulpas and he said that, much like yoga, meditation and quite literally half of the New Age movement, they're a form of cultural appropriation that Americans stole from India and then completely butchered.

Discounting the fact that cultural appropriation is just a thing for people to complain about when they have nothing else to complain abut, your friend from India isn't the primary and sole authority on Indian culture and whether or not it's being appropriated.
This is because Indian culture isn't HIS culture, he doesn't own it, he's just a part of it. Even that much might not be true, because being from a particular country doesn't mean that you know anything about the culture of that country.
So, let's pretend that cultural appropriation is an actual thing on-par with actual issues. Are the tulpas described in this thread appropriating and butchering Indian culture? No. The tulpas described here are clearly a stem from the tree of Tibetan Buddhism, not Indian Buddhism.
Even still, the tulpas here are similar to what's in Indian Buddhism as well, since Indian Buddhism defines a tulpa as "any unreal, illusory or mind created apparition," which is what's present here.
Modern tulpas and people who create them aren't butchering or appropriating either mentioned form of Buddhism. Even if they were, I'm willing to bet money that the majority of Indians or Tibetans wouldn't care in the slightest, or even know what the Hell they're talking about. |
