| A lot of theory, especially if you're dealing with x86. I've been "sort of" working on one (use Bochs if you ever decide to go on) but I rarely work on it. |

| Huskies it is not what I wish to create a fourm on operating system arguement but I think to say that MAC is worse OS then windows when there are several Distinguish features (Window copy MAC features, MAC has security Such that getting virus is hard, Windows spys on user) I do think one should not make this statement. |

I'd love to make one that is compatible with UNIX-like software, but...
Cloning the Linux kernel will cost more money than I can imagine (well over $1B)
using the Linux kernel forces the restrictive and dangerous GPLv2 on you (meaning you're responsible for releasing source code, plus you get derivatives that screw up developers targetting your platform and probably not going to make a ton of money off it.)
forking FreeBSD/NetBSD/BSD/OpenBSD means you have to re-write a large portion of the kernel, and pretty much everything related to booting.
forking Linux is even worse than forking just the Linux kernel
and writing one from hand is even worse than forking a BSD clone
god if only NeXTSTEP was open-source and had some license even more permissive than MIT or BSD or zLIB.

| Ah i am sorry but i am not comfortable with this Prospect, Amazon frequently use LINUX OS for theyre server but not MAC, And so i feel it is not Appropriate to host such a Discussion. |

| Isn't the reason macs get viruses less because they don't allow you to run non approved programs? Like iPhones? |

| No, There are several distinguishing features on MAC that make Virus harder to get, Mainly in the kernel, i will not go in depth, it is possible to get one But as you mentioned non approved programs Do not run well for they are often malicious. |

"Isn't the reason macs get viruses less because they don't allow you to run non approved programs? Like iPhones?"
No, it's because it's impractical to create malware for it.
The percent of people using it is even less than Linux and people don't really do anything besides maybe write office reports and relax to some music with it.
It doesn't appeal to gamers (where you can steal Steam accounts)
It doesn't appeal to most techie people (just overall messy)
It doesn't appeal to anyone but people who need a casual machine to write office stuff on
You can't really do graphics editing and stuff with it (Windows and Linux does it better)
You can't really make music with it (FL Studio is better than any Apple exclusive product)
You can't really do anything with it other than enjoy security based on the fact no one will screw with you because they will find no reason to

i dont know
i feel like an OS not derived from Linux (like SteamOS) specifically targetting the gamer is a hard, hard task
would it be easier to fork a BSD clone or make one from scratch
in which case
how the hell do i install a BSD clone anyway i cant figure it out |

| The majority of viruses on Windows are caused by idiots running random software from the Internet, or idiots not keeping their software up-to-date. Yes, part of the reason Macs get less viruses is because it has a far lower market share than Windows, but it would be just as easy to create a virus for a Mac as it would to be to make a virus for Windows. |

@cntkillme
Are you planning to release it? Are you working on porting it to the amd64 architecture?
If so, what license will it be under? |

| It should already be more or less compatible with AMD since both the AMD and Intel processor (well, most of them at least) are x86. |

"Are you planning to release it? If so, what license will it be under?" It's not going to be good enough to release, there's no point. I might just make it available for the hell of it but it's never going to become an actual OS.
At this point all I've created it a simple bootloader and a 'kernel' that all it does now is remap the interrupts and handles keyboard input directly via I/O instructions when the keyboard interrupt is invoked and prints whatever you type onto the screen. It's literally nothing else. |
