| I'm back, but only to lurk/help others with their projects. I don't think I'll join any RPs at the moment (I've got other commitments, like a weekly virtual ttrpg session and college, to worry about). But anyways, it's good to see that the regulars haven't left. |

Congrats on getting into a college. Is it a good one?

"Congrats on getting into a college. Is it a good one?"
I'm going to a local community college for the first two years (to save money) and then transferring to a university. The short of it? "No, but I'll be in a good college in a year or two". |

I haven't decided yet, but I think I'll head for either some type of psychology or creative writing. |

I wish you good luck if you do indeed pursue a degree like that.
From what I've heard and seen, the after-college is harder than a lot of the others. |

I don't really mind that. I think I can do pretty good in either field. |

The one thing I would say is absolutely do not major in creative writing. Take a class, maybe a couple, but don't major in it. You're going to find out that you can't teach creativity, and the classes are just English classes with more open-ended assignments. You learn more from yourself when writing than you will from taking a few classes. Each writer has a unique voice for their pieces, after all, and no one in the world can tell you how to develop that. |

To add onto that thought; No one is going to look at a creative writing degree and care a single bit. Your time is best spent writing for your own personal want/desire. For example, I saw a position posted at Gearbox for a writing/storyboard position. Doubtful to get it, I was still able to apply because I met the only requirement you'll ever see for (creative) writing jobs; Have a published piece of work. (Amazon makes meeting that requirement really, really easy. Unless you're going into journalism, but that is in itself, a different area of study. Having that is actually important to folks.) |

@benzo
I was actually thinking of an English (Instead of Creative Writing) degree, my bad. But thank you for the helpful advice! |
