I just mostly use it for adding albums and movies on my wish list, for a thing I want to see or hear. If I'm not sure about something I'm interested in I add it to my wish list just so I can decide if I want it or not and if not I can just delete it.
I also use it to look at the score of something for curiously, comparison, or just get an idea of the quality of something.
I sick of seeing negative reviews I know that's life, but it's most prevailing on this site, I try to look at other sites and reviews instead.
Like if I see the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band #1 on Rolling Stone's 500 Best Albums list on that site and see an extremely low star rating comment on the first page and I immediately press the vote down.
There's IMDb if I want to add movies to wishlist, but there's just not any good music databases like that one.

"The thing about rateyourmusic is that the ratings are entirely based off of what rating everyone in the user base gives that certain album or single. There isn't just one reviewer who is giving their opinion like what happens on sites such as Allmusic, av club or stereogum. It's a whole community's overall opinion. Because of that, I would take their ratings with a grain of salt. A lot of the albums I absolutely love there are not rated as highly as I would like them to be." -Itzcuintli-TotzliDay
"Because it's people (the users of the website) who have probably never listened to her before, or only listened to a few songs on the album, judging it. It's much different that a professional critic(s) who will criticize or acclaim an album for it's quality in production/flow/lyrics/etc, unlike this site where users can just downvote an album because "ew her voice is annoying", "this [stuff] is weird i hate it".
And let's face it - Claire's music is an acquired taste (and that's not a bad thing). Not too many people are going to love it unless this is their type of music, especially people who listen to the usual/radio pop music.
Edit: And to add, the site [stinks] anyways. Like Itzcuintli-TotzliDay said, albums that are near-perfect have just average scores on there." -TheSnowbroHalfaxa
