An essay by RockNova.
Now, this goes without saying, but online dating is already against the rules of Roblox. But unfortunately, it is an offence that is nearly undetectable, and of course there’s not much I can do about it, being just one standard Robloxian. However, I bring this essay to the forums today with the purpose of discouraging the act if you aspire to or are currently in the world of clans and groups of war.
I’ve already seen it more than a few times: Group leaders giving unfair privileges and ranks to their “partner” rather than the loyal members who actually work for it. This, in turn, can wreak havoc in the group itself. The second in command position is very powerful, and if it is given to one without training or experience in leading or helping to lead, the group can quickly lose status as a powerful presence. Not to mention that the leader who online dates can be more easily tricked into giving an enemy a seat of power.
Strong and mature leadership are, at least in my opinion, what clans need in order to function properly, maintain discipline, and find victory in fights. Otherwise, there is no order. Leaders need to prepare their soldiers and train them to fight, as well as be able to direct them in battle to keep up teamwork and attack important strategic points; without that, the whole group in the raid or defense can be reduced to a blundered and bewildered mass of bodies.
If for any reason the strong leadership is not present, which should be filled by those who work and train hard for the position, then that group can only hope to find the fate stated above. The act of online dating increases the chances of this happening exponentially, and I have already been disappointed by the leader of a promising clan turning out to be an immature and unfit leader who elects even worse commanders due to the sole purpose that they were online dating, and this leader refused to correct their mistakes. The result seen during raids, defenses and trainings were, as you probably could have guessed, very chaotic. Rarely were orders given, aside from the usual “Get to the terminal”, and the soldiers placed themselves wherever they wanted; there was no respect for any of the high ranks aside from the leader, and that leader did nothing about this.
These are just small examples out of the ample issues that I noticed in that clan, and their lack of attention is what spurred me and many others to leave. Had they been properly addressed and had the group’s leader made an effort to reform the conduct in the group, I truly believe it would have been a great and powerful group. But his ties with his online dating prevented him from seeing that, and for that I was greatly disappointed. Nothing good can come from online dating in the clan world; of this I am certain.
So in conclusion, I implore all of you in clans and groups of war: If you want to become powerful and respected, refrain from the act of online dating, as it can only lead to the ruin of your group and the disappointment of your members. This fate became apparent to me in my own experience, and I hope that those of you who take this essay seriously will consider my views. Thank you all for your time. |

However I will say, the threat isn't online dating. Sorry, but it's not. The threat is leaders themselves, if they can't date online and still show respect to all their members equally without giving their partner major benefits, then they should not be a leader to begin with. This has nothing to do with dating online at all, more or less the competency of the individual. |

I have encountered the opposite gender attempting to cleverly scheme their way into my trust. They have and always will fail. I support this message.

I respect everyone's opinion. While FireStorm does have valid points on why online dating isn't the real threat, I just came to discuss why it CAN be a threat, not that it is the most prominent in all cases. Leaders who online date are more prone to being biased in their partner's favor, and that the act of online dating itself poses many other threats just in doing so, such as spies, as I have mentioned. I simply discourage it for those reasons and others, due to the immediate liabilities it can cause, but I in no means say that it is the cause for all problems in the group.
Also, this is on C&G because it is an essay regarding online dating in the *Clan World*. Please consult the title next time. |
