Fun Fact: most men with female friends are attracted to said friends, and think said friends return that attraction (they usually don't)
So I guess most of the time it's cause guys try to insert attraction. Or it's just gender (roles) and the fact that guys and girls tend to form their own groups away from each other (although I don't think it's innate to do so). |

Well, men and women are different, and will always be different solely because of gender and how each gender reacts to one-another, there's no denying that.
Buuuuut that doesn't mean we shouldn't view the two as equals in society, basing each man or woman off their character.
You're right, this is sorta like a new kind of segregation, and it's been going on for a long time. I'd like to think it'll all be resolved one day in the future... but it's gonna be rough.

There are differences based on socialization, but there is very little innate difference, at least when it comes to brain functions. |
