Before anything, I know this is the wrong forum, but this is where most game devs are so....

Roblox gave a sneak peek of a shader feature that they're hoping to integrate into Rblx Studio T_T

I really really really hope this becomes a feature soon, like seriously, just imagine...all teh possibilities we can make with this..........the days of using png images to distort player screens will be over, my long dream of making realistic distortion effects in roblox will finally be realized T_T

Hack Week projects aren't guaranteed to be implemented, and usually aren't even intended to be implemented. They seem to be focusing more on useful projects now though, with the intent to implement.

I didn't read the article. Did they actually say anything about adding stuff as powerful as HLSL??? That would be epic.




It would be more epic if you could change the shaders for different graphics qualities, so that when your super neat shader at settings 10 is too laggy, it doesn't just revert to default at lower quality settings - what if the shader was an important part of the game?

Idk, that's just me. I really have no experience with shaders. I could even be wrong, and shaders make no impact on performance.

Simply put:
Saturation could be useful for "Going back to the past" games.
Edge detection is a bit crap tbh, except if u would want to make like a cartoonish kind of game.
Wave distortion, absolutely LOVE it! Could make a drunk type game or something, would be extremely useful for GTA games for all these substances.
Scene downsampling reminds me of heat travelling upwards, like when u can see it, and I think it could also be used a bit in the same way as Wave distortion.
Mosaic effect could be used in maybe cartoonish games or something, but is also as bad if not worse than edge detection.
Knockout effect looks AWESOME! Would be really cool to make a fighting game with this or add this into a shooting game.
Fog is really awesome I can say, I was like "What's different from the current fog?" but then read about it and it said that the skybox also changes color and then I looked and saw it, so I really like that.
Depth of field seems pretty cool and simulates that blur effect that u can do with ur eyes, but isn't as noticeable though.

Kapking, can't HLSL do much, much more than that? Or is HLSL just a language to set depth of field and motion blur and about five useless preset effects like mosaic?
I think you have it wrong. You can do a LOT more than the lame examples they showed in the video.

Lol Jarod, u don't get my point, I was commenting on the ACTAUL features not HLSL itself, HLSL sounds pretty awesome from what I just heard :P

Antialiasing and depth of field should be pretty cool. Saturation might be nice too.
