I've been working on a place for about a week now, It has a lot of detail so far so Finishing it will take some time but I'm curious if I can improve on anything so far or if anyone can suggest a good builder to learn from or if you can visit the place and give me your opinion.
Here is the URL:
http://www.roblox.com/games/29984871/Hope

Anyways, even if you don't have time or don't have anything to point out, I still thank you for taking the time to read this or check out the place.

-Thanks,

4.5/10

1: Roads do not turn 90 degrees, make it a curve

2: Add Lighting, hard to experience anything with no light.

3: Change snow in the main building. Snow is under a roof, but where there is no roof, no snow is present.

4: Add more snow to the overall game, mainly the city, as not much is shown.

5: Make more entrances to the large snow area than the one small tunnel in the building.

6: Add More debris.

7: Add more things on sidewalks, more mailboxes, and make streetlamps, tree posts, bike racks, those kind of things.

Thank you,
I plan on redoing the corner roads when I've finished most of the city area
The lighting unfortunately is going to stay dark, if it's too bright the night doesn't look quite right and the day can be blinding when you aren't in the shadow of anything, also the lighting does become brighter as the day goes on, then decreases again after 06:00:00
I had actually spent several hours putting snow on everything and it didn't save(really not looking forward to that again XD)
I'm working on at least 2 more entrances to the city besides through the tower
Debris and other things like mailboxes are hard to add lots of without making them repetitive, so I have to make a lot of models and insert them in, which takes a lot of time

Thank you for the suggestions though and taking the time to visit

` It was pretty good i enjoyed sitting very close at my computer just to see the detail.

1. The brightness is a problem ( for me jus saying )

2. Good map

3. I like the abandoned theme that you've put into it; looks quite nice i do tend to have a soft spot for themes like that.

4. Basically what the other guy said more debris ( more things along the street etc.. )

5. I advise you to check out the game called "Forgotten Memories" it has a lot of things that you can take from it & include into your game.

~ I still liked it though keep doing what you do

A common misconception people make about building on ROBLOX is that extreme detail with a lack of content is the epitome of skill in the field. Those people are wrong. Anyone can sit in one place for an hour to improvise a chair.

I like your place a lot, not because it has the highest density of blocks in a 4x4 area, neither because of its simplicity, nor for its innocence (lacking bad habits we see commonly in GD).
Your place is good because I can tell content is something that's important to you, you weren't concerned with trying to make a 100 block fence post, you just wanted to make a nice setting. I like it.

3 major things:

1.) Lighting. Fix it, man. I can barely see anything, but since you are new and no one has any beef with you, I turned my gamma up on my monitor just for you. Fix it with some nice, low lighting. Look up some guides and tutorials about lighting in UE4, as well as various game designing programs, and try to apply those concepts. You'll find that most games by Bethesda are extremely good examples of appropriate and excellent lighting. Also check out "Dishonored", "Far Cry" (3 or 4), and "Mafia II".

2.) Audio. Ask anyone who knows anything about games and you'll know that sounds make a game, they really do. From the sound of footsteps on old stone bricks, to the sound of the unsheathing sword, you'll find that the immersion quality is what drives lots of interest in your game. Don't be afraid to try out new BGMs (Background music) for your game, and try to remember that anything powered will make a noise; everything from a windmill, a light bulb, to a ceiling fan. This is crucial.

3.) Size. The size of the task is often what proves most daunting to builders and scripters alike, yet the experienced among us have found that planning beforehand is a very beneficial thing to do because it allows you to brainstorm and put it on paper. Sometimes actually seeing what you're doing instead of trying to visualize it in your mind will work 100x better. Remember this as you increase the size of your map, as I hope you plan to do.

Thanks both of you for that.
It's such a weird concept to me that people don't have their monitors as bright as mine, I've always assumed everyone did, so I will be fixing the lighting a bit.

And sounds I'm really looking forward to, when I was last active on Roblox there were barely any sounds to use and it was impossible to find them.

Pretty good starting point.

Based on what I see here, I think you'd be a perfect candidate for the One Up Studios internship program:

That's actually pretty cool. I would just suggest increasing your brightness even more.

Really nice build.
Has a nice atmosphere with the smoke-misty type stuff in the sky.
Buildings are really well done, I enjoyed climbing to the top of one of the towers and looking through the boards at the build.

Maybe you could add some more lighting, like twitchy light bulbs or candles scattered in some places and more debris like some destroyed cars, skeletons.

Are you planning this as a showcase build or an actual game?
Would like to know
