The ammo is pretty much infinite, and it's silent. I mean sure you can lose arrows, but arrows aren't exactly rare either
The only problem I can foresee is having to take on a large group of zombies all at once... someone with a bow would be screwed unless they ran. But this can all be solved by avoiding them as much as possible and only killing when you have to.

@Flame
Yeah
also have to take into account it's more difficult to be accurate with a bow, especially over long distances since the arrow goes slower, and thus gravity affects it more. That's another thing, your range is limited. But that wouldn't be too much of a problem
and it really depends, where I live there's all kinds of places you can get arrows. |

if you're talking about real life, then listen
it takes a lot of strength to use a bow and arrow. and they're all shooting with different power. a 25 pound bow is what i use, and it takes a lot of stamina. and by pounds, i mean you're shooting with 25 pounds of force. when you do that, considering what you hit and what arrow you use, it's going to pierce pretty damn hard. getting an arrow out of a hay bale with a target is easy, but a human? plus, when shooting with 25 pounds of force, an arm guard is essential unless you want your forearm skin torn to shreds. your fingers will hurt like hell, and shooting with that much force means it's harder to be accurate.
and arrows are sure common, but the kind used for hunting won't be found in any house you find.
@phen
gravity/range doesn't matter. when you shoot with heavier force, gravity barely affects the arrow because you're going so fast. range isn't an issue either. you have like 100 yards or more with a 15 pound shot.
trust me i've done lots of archery |

guns would be way more handy tbh bows take longer to load, pull back and release than to aim and pull a trigger (and occasionally reload) with a gun. bows would be a last resort for me tbh

A crossbow would be easier to load and fire quickly, and would take less stamina to fire multiple times.
"100 yards"
A moving target at 300 feet is not a lot of distance, especially when you're the target it's moving towards and you're in panic mode. Miss one shot and you're basically done |

@Magic
I have an arm guard already, and you're not guaranteed to hit your arm if you make sure you bend the arm you're holding the bow with
Also, my fingers won't hurt because I also have a release ( if you don't know what that is, google it, though I'm sure you do )
Also, these are zombies we're talking here. The arrow will most likely shatter their skull bone if I'm shooting the head, so the arrow wouldn't be really hard to pull out. I use like a 50-55 pound bow. And range is an issue when gravity is affecting your shot, plus shooting 100+ yards is not easy and a a dumb move unless you're EXTREMELY skilled in archery, and i"m talking like medieval archer type skill. It's not easy to hit a target at that distance, let alone a moving target. |

holy crap
55 pounds of force
at that kind of speed i doubt a 100 yard non-moving target is a problem. although since you're faster you have less room for mistake
that kind of power must be exhausting. |

@magical
Firing it over and over is exhausting, yeah. But as you do that you eventually build stronger muscles in the shoulder and back region and get used to it at some point, to where pulling it back is nothing.
100 yards is the length of a football field if you're not counting the end zones. Yeah, you have a big chance to hit a NON moving target at that range. But you still can't be a beginner with a bow and hit something that far away on the first shot, and the first shot always matters when you're dealing with something like zombies.
But it's very possible if you're a proficient bowman

it's not like you're hitting a crumb, but yea. you need tons of skill for that kind of shot. at that speed though, you can definitely get across the field in a matter of seconds. |

True, but suppressors alone are expensive as hell and even then it won't be as quiet as a bow unless you're using something with a low muzzle velocity like a .22 |

Yes, that too
and unless you plan on making your own bullets ( which can ruin your gun and even injure/kill you ), arrows are the better choice |

it's not like guns would be any louder than ambient apocalypse sounds
also it's not like zombies have a generational instinct specifically for listening for gunfire
also they can just die of exposure really quickly
since they don't have any redeeming physical or mental qualities, like basic cell regeneration or rudimentary survival knowledge like that the gigantic chasm near arizona can't be walked over |

or just live in the wilderness and hunt animals or if you want to be badass, you use an armoured van, have tons of jerry cans in the back, and just plow down hordes of zombies

I live in a small town and doubt ambient apocalypse sounds would be very loud imo. |
