Why do cells divide?
Specifically, why should prokaryotes go through binary fission and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

Cells die. For example, your skin cells die at an incredible rate. Of course, the body needs to make more cells to supplant these old ones, so cells undergo mitosis.
Prokaryotes lol idk smh |

Why do they? There is no why.
We observe the phenomenon in nature because cell division allows cells to replicate themselves. Every species is composed of cells which have persisted indefinitely through their ability to reproduce. We would not exist to ask why if cells did not reproduce. |

| That is the anthropic principle in action. But that is not the answer to your question. It is just a philosophical explanation for 'why' things happen. |

| I know the perfect platform to find answers. It's called your biology textbook. |

You're really funny. Sometimes, not every piece of advice comes from a textbook and ask questions isn't a bad thing when taking biology isn't it?
