I have a question for everyone here. What do you honestly think about school?

I'm not asking if you like school work or not, I'm asking if school is actually needed for the average person. Most people think that school is very necessary and required to get anywhere in life. I've been in school for quiet a long time, and should be graduating High School in about four months, or so. I've decided to look back on all the years I've spent in school, and I couldn't honestly find a reason to call school "helpful" in any way. English and a bit of math are the only two things that I've found to be useful to the average person. Now, obviously, grades are important for getting hired, right? Not entirely. Most people who get degrees in collage, even today, cannot get a job. Now this isn't true for all carrier paths, but I've also thought about the requirements of my carrier. It turns out, most of the things I've learned in school, is never used (and I mean never). I'm not saying anyone should skip school, but I'm asking everyone to look at school and realize that your wasting many years of your life, when you could have a job already.

Here is another thing to think about. Yes, money is important. But there is one thing that you must understand. If you know what your dream is, as far as jobs go, you won't need to call your job, by that name, to begin with. The reason why I brought up money is because money is important to live a free life. I suggest that you do whatever it takes to get your dream job, and ignore everything else. Learn what you need to learn, and don't waste your "memory" with things you will never lose. Again, don't get me wrong. I'm not telling you to skip school. Depending on your grade, you must always learn the basics before you can take off on your own direction. Once you're there, learn what you need to, and skip what you don't. As the infamous quote goes, "yolo." Whether or not you believe that, it doesn't matter. Live in the life you're currently in. Why suffer your whole life if you're just going to die at some point (until science figures out how to solve defects from happening, and/or stop defects from spreading. Which btw, those defects are what causes old age and things such as Cancer), when you could be happy, enjoy life, and do what you want? society's rules that everyone follows (not laws), do not actually have to be followed. Those rules are the reason why I, and possibly other people (depending on their carrier choice), have wasted countless hours working on something that was never needed. Years of school that has taught me barely anything I actually need to know.

Jeez. I've written a lot more than I thought I would, but it's a difficult concept to explain to those who either ignore it, deny it, or abuse it. For the record, I'm not trying to be a YouTuber (which you should only do as a hobby until you're able to use it as a job). My dream is to be a programmer who makes video games. By the time school is over for me, me and my father (of which is a programmer and engineer himself) will work together. I'm sure there are a few carrier paths that do require degrees, and good grades, but I'm also sure that there was/is at least one subject that you haven't used yet, or will never use.

I'm simply asking this question so I can get everyone's opinion on school, and what I have said previously. I'd prefer if those who respond are either mature enough to do so, or are in the same position as me (as in upper grades or simply asking yourself the same question). Either way, thanks for replying. I hope everyone understood what I've said. Sorry it's so long, but I think if I just asked, "Is school actually needed?", I would've gotten a load of hate.

A basic summary is this:

Learn the basics. Check what is legitimately required for your carrier path (not from a friend, but from someone who actually knows what they are talking about, this may not even include your parents. I'm talking about a professional). Learn what you need to learn, not what you don't need.

Even if you read this basic summary, I highly suggest reading everything I said previously, when you have the time.

When you have time, yes. If not, read my summary (though the summary doesn't give the full effect as the so called "word wall." Not denying that it is a word wall, though. :P).

@kylemunday

Exactly. I think I can safely say that I've wasted almost every year of my life, in school. This excludes anything actually needed, such as the basics, English, and any other part of school that I actually have needed, have used, and will need/use.

You could always home school. Home schooling allows for a custom schedule, and possibly, custom subjects. It depends on how you're parents would deal with that. But you must be willing to actually do your work.

You could also try the other alternative to home schooling, of which is self teaching. Though self teaching is rarely done because most students wouldn't actually do there work. But those are two possible alternatives besides public/private schools. Some of you might not have these options, all I can say is, "sorry and good luck." For those who do have those options, I suggest you look into it.

Don't worry about "losing" your friends. You can still reconnect oh mobile devices and on social media (or however else you might meet). Who knows, it's up to you.

every generation needs to be taught at least a basic level of understanding in history of their country, maths, literature, politics, common sense, religion, etc. we can't just all be specialised in what we want and ignorant in every other topic, we aren't a wild tribe anymore

I think school wouldn't be necessary in the future since robots will be taking over many jobs that include computing although,school,if it was to be necessary in the future it would most probably teach students problem solving, sympathy, friendship, and how to survive by themselves or in a community and of course school would physically condition it's students for the survival of this race.

If you were referring to school being fun, it might be fun, but unless you're learning something actually important for what you need, you're not really making progress, regardless of what you might say.

If you were referring to home schooling or self teaching being fun, then yes. Both are a great alternative (if you're actually willing to do your work), as you are actually being productive everyday, learning something you actually need to learn, a more flexible schedule, you don't lose your friends, you lose any bullies you might have (unless they're online, then just block/report them), and for the most part, just a better choice all together. Although, public/private schools have there own advantages. Even so, I'd still home school/self teach over those.

@Edginess

That is why I explained in both the summary and the essay, the basics are required. After the basics, you should be free (and can be free) to make your own choices, to learn what you actually need to learn for your carrier path.

You may be right. But with how history has played out so far, our schooling system hasn't changed since the Roman Times. I believe, our next step in humanity, will be permanent space travel. Then, I believe, we will all end up in some time of virtual reality, of which may happen before we master space travel. Once we get into virtual reality, we may be happy and be able to live forever, but progress there isn't actually real, unless it's some type of role-playing game with numbers.

I'm trying to figure out what everyone else thinks. I wasn't sure if I was alone on this or not. I'm also trying to share this to all who don't know this.

Maybe, if this thread means anything, you can share this with others. Maybe write your own essay on this, or make your own video. I feel like we could possibly fix this problem if we had enough people realize how much of their life was actually wasted. Although, to fix this today, like I said, you can switch to a different type of schooling. Who knows, maybe this thread will help some of you convince your parents to let you do so.

One other thing, have you noticed how most people despise an idea such as this? It's because most people have grown up in the system, and have never changed. This system, like I've said in a previous comment, is both the government and the ancient schooling system that we've had for thousands of years. I'll let you guys figure out why we're trapped in school like this. If we didn't actually need it, and there is no solid evidence that we do need it (excluding required knowledge), then why are we being forced to do this? Why is there a law that states that we must be in school until the age of 18? I think it's about time we change this, no matter if it's just for your self, or for a much larger population.

Welp, I have 1 year left.
And then I'll have to go through college, and then university, and then a job.. and then die.
Wow, that's gonna be great!

@Above

College isn't required. As I explained in the essay, most people who have a college degree, are unable to get jobs regardless. College is only suggested to those who choose a carrier path that involves large businesses. If your one of those people, good luck and have fun. As for me, I work for myself.

Hey, it's completely up to you. The one thing I failed to explain in detail is this:
When you take a class for your carrier, the other problem is that you're taking the whole class. What if you only need to learn certain parts? It's okay to stick to the end, as you're actually making some progress, but it's still slower than getting directly to the point. But like I said, it's up to you. Maybe, if you take the full class, you won't have the problem of skipping over anything you have forgotten that you do need to learn.

I for one, am not going to college. I might not be able to brag about spending 1-6 (or more) years in college, but at least I'm doing what I want, and am getting paid for it. But most importantly, I'm doing it now.
