| I know we have an infinite number of political differences, ddude, but open carry is the dumbest law enacted that I've seen in a while. Concealed carry is good enough and we need to ban weapons the military uses with the intent of killing terrorists worldwide. I support CHLs and concealed carry and banning the array of guns that can start mass murders. Open carry and still allowing people to carry AKs and Uzis out in public display is ridiculous. This should be illegal. |

| I support handguns and hunting rifles and shotguns still being legal but other guns gotta go. This "open carry" BS has to stop. |

The one bright side I can think of to this is that police could more easily know who is armed and may need to be followed a little bit.
Other than that I can see so many ways how open-carry could go wrong, especially considering how people are apparently more concerned about controlling guns rather than trying to get the mental state of America out of an obsession with gun violence. |

| We also need to increase the background checks to make it to where it makes it harder for Texans to buy guns. For heaven's sake, the state that's the toughest on background checks is Kentucky, and that's Rand Paul and Governor Bevin's state. |

Forgot another "positive" point, if you could call it this depending on how much you value actual freedom of speech, even for people you disagree with:
Open-carry allows people who take the second amendment very seriously to express their support for it... Kind of like how members of the Westboro Baptist Church go around preaching what is basically Christian extremism. |

| It's cute that you can allow the 2nd Amendment to tie into the 1st Amendment but the reality is it's disturbing. Kind of how Donald Trump thinks it's disgusting that a woman babyfeeds in public or how Hillary Clinton has to use the bathroom like any other human being. With these assault rifles out in public, a multitude of things could go wrong. It's just common sense that I can't see how people like Ted Cruz can't get it. |

Hence why I pointed out earlier that a lot of things could go wrong with open-carry.
I'm pretty sure that the police, let alone the general public, would still profile people's intentions with visible firearms by looking at their appearance.
If you cloned the guy in the picture (clothing and gun included), made his skin darker and gave him a beard and Arabic accent, and put him next to the guy in the picture, which one do you think people would raise eyebrows at? |

| Let's also assume that said Arab-looking clone of the person in the picture was also presumably born in America and shared all political beliefs with the person in the picture, obviously including regarding the open-carry law. |

you don't even have to give him a beard or an Arabic accent, he can be clean-shaven with a Hispanic accent or he can even have a darker pigment with an African American accent and it would raise eyebrows
it's even a racial profiling problem too |

Exactly. I just felt like using the one that most living Americans would be most terrified of to make this a bit easier to understand.
Current stereotypes, while often used to make potentially offensive jokes, are a very real thing in people's minds, even if they do represent only a microscopic fraction of a demographic.
This law, which is meant to be about personal freedom, could potentially end up giving groups stereotyped by violent tendencies even less rights if they decide to exercise this freedom. |

"thanks for reminding me to not move to texas"
You know open carry is legal in 26 other states, right? Including Washington, the one that you live 15 minutes away from |

"You know open carry is legal in 26 other states, right?"
ABC's Good Morning America on Monday morning said there's 45 states total that allow it with some restrictions.
That's 45 states too many. |

| I don't mind people staying strapped. In fact I encourage it. But if you have to flash your gun in public where everyone can see it then you're probably a moron. Especially since you're singling yourself out as the first target if the situation ever arises when you actually need your gun. |

By Texas law, "being strapped" displays that you have a gun, and is therefore "open carry". The theoretical statement arises that if I was ever a mass murderer (I don't ever want to be, but this is just theoretical), I would target any civilian with a gun on them that I can see, and that includes those with a gun strapped on in a holster.
