or how about this just let people buy what they want
also, they're called mechanical keyboards. the original ibm keyboards use buckling springs, which are usually too loud for normal use. most people nowadays use cherry mx switches, which even then there are many varities of mx switches |

Just stay away from the IBM keyboards with windows keys. And there are a few Model M's that are rubber dome, so stay away from them too.
Model M's tend to be pretty cheap, I've seen them go for $5-$30 at a flea market and over $50 online |

"buckling springs, which are usually too loud for normal use" This is a common misconception I find buckling springs just have more of a full sound which makes them seem to be louder than Cherry MX Blues, but Cherry MX Blues are a LOT louder and a lot more annoying |

well they're all different aren't they
a buckling spring keyboard would be unwieldy for games
new cherry keyboards start at what like $80

| off topic comment here, if you guys are looking for reasonably priced mechanical keyboards, I would reccomend the rosewill RK-9000V2 for a full size keyboard, and cm storm quickfire XT for a TKL (tenkeyless) size mechanical keyboard. |

"a buckling spring keyboard would be unwieldy for games" That's true. Buckling spring keyboards (assuming that you are looking at a Model M and not a Model F) have membranes just like your average $5 keyboard from WalMart. There isn't a PCB under the mechanism, so Model M's are stuck with only 2KRO. |

"cm storm quickfire XT for a TKL (tenkeyless)" The XT is a full-sized board You'd want a QFR (QuickFire Rapid) |

| and yes cherry mx blues are extremely loud. it's what i'm using right now. i also have browns, reds, and clears. clears are nice if you want the feels of blues but they aren't as loud as blues. reds are great for gaming, but rubbish for typing (in my opinion). browns are good for just about anything. |

| i think the XT has a TKL option, or at least it says it does on amazon. also, don't buy the quickfire rapid-i because the LEDs on it are infamous for dying out very quickly. |

I'm using MX greens right now, not that loud with the sound dampening.
How are your MX Blues?

imo reds = great (my personal favorite out of the bunch for typing) blues = terrible greens = good browns = worst of them all, absolutely hate them clears = great |

| MX Blues are my favorite, but just as a warning, they're very loud. I've never tried MX greens so I don't know how they'd compare. Blues are like an extreme version of browns. Just listen to a sound test of mx blues, it'll tell you everything you need to know. |

| the problem with reds is that the actuation force of them is too low, meaning that it's very easy to accidentally press down a key you didn't intend to press down. Many times with my hands in the WASD position I'd find myself accidentally holding down W when I wasn't even aware of it. |

Greens are just like blues, but harder to press according to data sheets.
Not sure why they cost so much though.

| MX greens, clears, and blacks are generally more expensive than the rest because of their rarity. This is especially true with clears. |

This is why I Went with MX Greens, my other keyboards have rubber domes that were beat to mush.

"the problem with reds is that the actuation force of them is too low, meaning that it's very easy to accidentally press down a key you didn't intend to press down." I had a problem with this at first, but after you get used to them, they feel so nice to your fingers. Especially if you're using worn-down reds, which feel butter smooth. I type the fastest and most comfortably on reds. I hate browns because they aren't tactile enough, so they just feel like a really scratchy and horrible version of MX Reds. |

My keyboard had the option for clears, and I think they cost as much as the greens. But I wanted something soft enough as to where my hands don't get tired.

| there's also topre (japanese made, EXTREMELY expensive), kailh, gaterons, and zealios type switches, but cherry mx are the most popular. I have a keyboard with kailh reds and they are extremely mushy and cheap compared to mx reds |

IMO clears are the next best option for avoiding finger fatigue They feel very cushiony and they don't have a really stiff tactile point, so you'll find yourself typing accurately yet not bottoming out. Greens have a very stiff tactile point and it's tough to avoid bottoming out on them. Bottoming out is really the killer on your fingers, not the stiffness of the switch, but I like Reds because bottoming out on them doesn't even make your hands fatigue. |

I wanted to try Topre switches but they're too expensive.
There are also weighted torpe switches which are even more expensive.

"gaterons" "zealios" Don't tell me that you're saying these are bad. Gaterons are 100x better than Cherry MX. Zealios are like the savior of all switches. |
