That is not to say that psychiatrists cannot help their patients. But they must lose their god complexes through which they practice their professions. Mental disorders are social constructs to explain abnormal behaviors that are maladaptive to modern society.

You're type of person who's always in everyone's business while most of world doesn't care it's not their relationship or gender liking.

I never made a moral judgement about LGBT behavior in this thread.

So your argument in invalid "TameThisAnimal." I was merely using an example to display the subjectivity of the psychiatric diagnostic and statistic manual.

Yet, you're saying all LGBT are mentally ill. Please tell me more how you contribute to society on a game or in life.

You are not very intelligent so I will try to reword what I said in a way you can understand. There was a time when the DSM labeled LGBT behaviors as mental illnesses. Then due to social pressure from the LGBT community these "disorders" were declassified. My entire point was that psychiatry itself is not backed by rigorous science.

doing something useless for pleasure that actually hurts you in the long run like smoking and drinking isn't classified is mental illness, so I don' think LGBT should be either.
What is really is, like drinking yourself to death, is the side effect of generally being an idiot degenerate, the end result is that the gene pool is cleaned up so who cares. (just don't let them adopt ayy lmao) |

At best, psychiatry is a humanistic philosophy that presumes maladaptive behavior is something that needs to be eradicated for the benefit of society.

"Mental disorders are social constructs to explain abnormal behaviors that are maladaptive to modern society."
While there's far more to be said about the issue of the LGBT declassification in the DSM-II aside from just the political pressures placed by the LGBT movement, as a medical statement, the statement that you made above puts me under unease.
Mental illnesses are NOT simply social constructs to explain abnormal behaviors. While that exists as part of the equation - ie, we must first adapt a normative baseline in order to determine what lies against that median - there also exists a plethora of inherent biological differences that systematically define an individual as having a mental illness. I suggest the scholarly paper 'Biological Perspectives on S3xual Orientation' by J. Michael Bailey that addresses that exact topic.
While I chose mainly to address LGBT here, given that it seemed you focused on that, I would like to also remind everyone here that nearly all mental illnesses have biological perspectives and to ignore them is to undermine the struggle that the individual feels in coping with the illness.

I do not deny that LGBT behaviors have biological origins. In the same way a man is physically attracted to a woman, people can feel attraction to the same gender. But labeling certain behaviors as diseases and disorders carries inherent moral judgements that are social constructs.

Blue are the people here that walk around, Blue like my corvette, it's in and outside. Blue are the words I say and what I think. Blue are the feelings that live inside me.

"But labeling certain behaviors as diseases and disorders carries inherent moral judgements that are social constructs."
Such is true with this field, though. It's why in our medical schools we take classes on ethics and moral judgement, because no matter how close we get to nailing down scientific conclusions, they must also be done so in social context. It's a good observation on your part, yes, but the fact of the matter is that we cannot base our judgement on mental illness through science alone given the current fabric of our society.

As an addon, I'm not saying it's the right way or the best way to do things, but in this society, that's how things are currently handled.

Perhaps I would not be complaining if more people understood the degree of subjective judgement that goes into labeling certain behaviors as maladaptive and detrimental to such a degree that it needs to be classified and systematically stamped out.
