Because, once the answer is given, the thread is useless. What is the point of continuing the conversation if you already got the answer to your question?

Because when people see a mod has replied they try and talk to them.
Could also be because they have replied and therefore answered the question, thus deprecating the thread entirely as its purpose has been resolved.

If I respond to something completely, there is no need for more discussion, so I lock it. If you have more you want to ask you can always PM me.
If I leave it unlocked, the following responses rarely have anything to do with the original topic. |
