assisted suicide.
Oregon was the first state to legally allow physician-assisted death to terminally-ill patients who are Oregon citizens. three more states have passed the law since Oregon did in 1994, but the documentary mainly focuses on people in Oregon, since it was the first. it follows a few people, and their last year or so up until they decide to kick the bucket. it makes me kinda proud to be an Oregonian.

woow

getting to know actual people and knowing as the documentary progresses that they're going to die at the end in real life sounds pretty sad

it's an intriguing concept though

probably one of the reasons why it's an award-winning documentary. they don't just talk about the process of Death With Dignity/I-1000, they follow people who are actually using this law. some of them die before they can even do it, but a couple do get to. there's this one that has liver cancer, and the documentary follows her more than anyone else, really. she got better there for a while, and then declined rapidly again. you could see the jaundice from the liver failure.
