"I know I'm biased, but you should script the "Sword Lords" gear! People neeeeeeed to get in on the Sword Lord experience :D
Just take like the Skeleton King sword mesh or something and give it a black and white skin design. And then make the animation where the gamemaster performs a sword fission and the sword splits into one black sword and one white sword, and throws one to his opponent."
I'll think about that. It sounds amazing but the animation would be awkward unless they are .1 studs apart. |

However, I'm still deciding whether or not to do it because of pay.

If I could give my two cents here:
You could do a Place that's map is basically a city theme. You could start by building a city square, and then maybe a street surrounding it with a few buildings on the other side of it. Then you could sell Kohl's Admin as a gamepass for like 10 tickets. And then you could showcase the first Place-in-the-gear in that place.
As you update it, you could slowly build buildings, streets, and landmarks around the city square, add more Place-in-the-gears, maybe even make it necessary to sleep and eat to have a decent roleplaying Place, but you could name it the "Place In The Gear Utopia" or something like that. As the place gets more popular, increase the price of the admin gamepass.
Kohl's admin house gets thousands of visits monthly, and it's just a house with admin commands--not to mention the sales of its gamepasses. If you built something like this and advertised it as a place where you can use Place-in-the gears, it seems like it would do way better, maybe even compete with popular games.
I'm not a great builder or scripter, I'm just average, but I'd be willing to help with some of the map if you want me to. Maybe the city could have different themes, etc. Plus if your place becomes popular and you show your support of this thread, maybe ROBLOX would notice, so win for everybody. We all want to see this happen, ya?
Just my thoughts. |

| The other half of his suggestion was for ROBLOX to sell these themselves, so I'd say partially scriptable. |

That sounds cool. Plus that seems like a good way to build a place; just building more around a city square as you please. |

That sounds really cool, actually.
He should also make R$ an earnable currency and then you can buy Place-in-the-Gears with it in like a Catalog-like GUI. |

I could help. I've never really built a game before, but I could build a generic building you could place every once in a while and give it to you as a model. I know nothing about scripting, though, but I'm an OK builder and I've used photoshop before.
If you're really doing this, I have an idea: It could be like a build onto a city game and live and protect it: 1. We could place restaurants with automated customer service that serve you food to eat. I saw something like that in a bowling alley game once, it was really cool. 2. All the jobs are filled with NPCs, but you could take assignments from stores to get money. 3. Events: changes in weather, day night cycle, zombie invasions, boss battles, random fights, robberies, etc. 4. People can place buildings and build with the stamp tool to add their own parts to the city. 5. I could make decals advertising place in the gears you make and get them to you.
Basically add these features once you build the foundation and it gets popular. You know, since it's a roleplaying game, but also a sandbox. |

@ruin
That would be a BADASS place to mess around with Kohl's admin and Place in the gears.
But, that seems far down the road from a development point of view. But I like the part about events and people building on to the city themselves as well (making them do the work for you! Lol).
Would it be like, everyone gets their own plot to build something in the city (sort of like Sandbox)? Or would they just be able to build past the end of the city? What would really be cool is if you put buildings and tycoons and stuff in a library and let them place stuff from that library.
And maybe the event script could be tied in to a day/night cycle from a scripting standpoint. Maybe at the reset of every day night cycle there would be a random chance of an event happening.
I'm not very active, but I could try to give help, too! :3
I think this city should have tons of mini-game areas to up its replayability. Tycoon buildings you could take ownership of, obstacle courses, fighting areas, etc. |

@Super
Yeah that would be wayyyy later in its development.
I had a feeling this city would have extremely high aesthetics to attract people just for its map alone (since at the end of the day, this would just be a Kohl's admin sandbox with Place in the Gear as a main event) so in the short term I was thinking what bosstrop was saying, just starting with the city's Central Park or square and then building around it as you feel like updating.
But this would be a really good plan for its later features.
And about the Kohl's admin: you could build a dungeon that you can teleport to through a portal that randomly appears and disappears throughout the city. At the end of the dungeon, there could be like ten admin spots, and if you control one you have Kohl's admin. It could be a temporary way to get admin, but if you want permanent admin you'd have to buy the game pass. |

I like pretty much every idea said.
Lucky, imo you should build your place like this:
1. Have the lore in mind--it'll make building design a lot easier. Since the point of this place is to showcase place-in-the-gears and get attention for this thread, I think it should be this:
An adventurer founds a town under an all powerful admin-giving dungeon with the help of his place-in-the-gears. Selling some gave him more than enough money to develop the town and collecting them gained him passage to the dungeon, which he cleared and obtained admin powers from.
Hearing of his success and wealth, people gather and settle in the town, and more adventurers come, hoping to gather enough place-in-the-gears to gain passage into the dungeon, getting admin powers. But these place-in-the-gears are very difficult to get. Sometimes you can buy them, but they are very expensive, and a lot of them are scattered all around town, no longer being used.
The Mayor's Office where the founder resides is locked and it seems impossible to gain clues. Nevertheless, these adventurers settle in this town, living in it while hoping they can find all the place-in-the-gears, to have their chance at this legendary dungeon.
Basically when you first join, you spawn in your own house that you just moved in to, and you have to go around earning R$ and finding place-in-the-gears. Everyone carries around a book (in the form of a GUI) that lists all of the collectible place-in-the-gears and shows you which ones you've found (you can find the same gears multiple times, and it just shows them twice if you do). So basically on top of a life sim roleplay and sandbox, it's a game about collecting place-in-the-gears.
These gears should be the only things you can "fight" with (no other weapons until you get admin) and attacking other people gives you every place-in-the-gear they had and transfer them to your book.
^ That sounds like a pretty cool premise for a game, and it would probably make it easier to build the game knowing what you want to build it for.
2. Based on that lore, I would probably build the place like this: Start with a decently large city square, that's kind of like a central park. In the middle of the city square should be the city hall/Mayor's office. Under that city square, build the beginning of the dungeon to achieve admin, and around it, build the beginnings of the rest of the city. Build the city around the city square, so you can go on hiatus and then continue whenever you like. From what it sounds like, SuperHero, ruin3Ds and I can all build parts of it for you or donate models. It should probably be built slowly, though, as I would imagine the city would have to be very well-built and aesthetic with high detail in order to attract players. However, this town shouldn't be just an regular town: it should have interest points sprinkled all over it; things like tycoon buildings where people can own a tycoon to get some R$, for example. Basically places where the gameplay will shift. I also say go with everything said so far, as they're all pretty good ideas to integrate into it. Finding the gears should be difficult. I was thinking an NPC vendor appearing randomly in the city could be a good event (based on what Super and ruin were talking about) and they would sell gears for a ridiculous amount of R$ (like 10k--which I was thinking would be hard to get). Also some gears would never be for sale and you'd have to quest for them. Things like maybe building stairs to the clouds to get to a gear or mining very deep to get to a gear, etc--things that change the gameplay.
This along with what everyone else was saying would make a very strong game (of course, we're talking super far in its development).
3. You should also advertise this thread so it seems like your place has a cause, and that will create a cloud of interest around it (not to mention thats one of the goals here--get ROBLOX to do this suggestion). Maybe even give benefits in-game to people who are members of your group or comment on this thread. That would be a really smart idea.
If you decide to go ahead with this project after all, I'll definitely help, free of charge ^3^
Good luck, man. |

So basically it would be a
Sandbox roleplay requiring sleeping and eating quest collect-them-all play to get admin defend your town infinite gameplay town builder game?

"Sandbox roleplay requiring sleeping and eating quest collect-them-all play to get admin defend your town infinite gameplay town builder game?"
I'd play that all day everyday.
Since the dungeon only gives temporary admin, you should totally make it so that as long as you have all the gears collected then you can go through the portal, but if you lose a gear and don't have that kind of gear anymore than you cannot go through the portal anymore.
And the dungeon should be like a hard obby with traps and dodging monsters and if they touch you they teleport you back to the beginning or something (but they move slower than you).
And I don't understand the building on to the city part; wouldn't you have to delegate specific plots of land where you can free build? |
