Can anyone tell me why this dosen't work? Thanks."

@Swag
No, I barely even know you. Should I be referring to you?
@Advanced
Cannot begin to say how much times this has happened to me. A lot, at least 5 or 6.

OP you're stupid.
"I have a problem with welding this part to this other part. Here's the script:" Uh what's the problem? What should happen? What does happen? Is there an error? An output? Oh wait, you're dumb and you don't understand how to ask for help so you criticize the people who answer questions. We can't read minds moron. |

@Swag Was a chick who was here earlier, had a question about DataStores.
A dude gave her 5 links.
One to the wikia. One to an article about GetAsync. One to an article about SetAsync. One to a article about Data Stores. And one to a article about Basic setting up of a script. (whitespaces, tags, etc.)
Then with the caption:
"You need to brush up on ALLL of this."

| @Iezi, if you had any common sense you'd realise no one wants to waste their time making an entire datastore script. |

@cnt
Sigh. Prime example.
See, obviously, if you could read, you could identify the problem as the person using Vector3 instead of CFrame. Even so, you didn't even try to ask "Well, what are you trying to do." Even then, obviously he was trying to weld one brick to another. If you had read and understood my little example, maybe you wouldn't have wrote something so idiotic.
So, you're stupid and a prime example of the problem. Thank you for proving my point.

It's not me who needs common sense. It's the world that needs a bit of compassion.
I guess I have no common sense, cause I would have helped her (which I did, in pm).

While this has the attention of some pretty decent scripters...
Weld.C0 = CFrame.new(Cannon.Position - Cannon.Parent.Part.Position, (Cannon.Position - Cannon.Parent.Part.Position) + MousePosition)
This doesn't quite achieve what I want, but it's closer than anything else so far. I'm trying to make a cannon that will snap to the direction the mouse was clicked at but stay at the same location (Galleons). The welds don't seem to be consistent. |

"See, obviously, if you could read, you could identify the problem as the person using Vector3 instead of CFrame." That doesn't solve the OPs problem, it solves a single problem.
"Even then, obviously he was trying to weld one brick to another" Oh really? Because I can read minds:
"I have a problem with welding this part to this other part. Here's the script:" "Can anyone tell me why this dosen't work? Thanks."

First of all, stop implying that I am the one in need of help. somedudewhowantsanswers needs help, not I.
Plus, if you had the slightest bit of scripting knowledge, you'd know the only problem there is the problem you mentioned based on what somedudewhowantsanswers gave us.
Plus, you don't need to read minds to see he is trying to weld something.
I prepared a bleach cocktail for you. It's yours when you're ready.

"It's the world that needs a bit of compassion."
we're not committing war crimes. the format of a viable help request or bug report follows:
1) What I wrote 2) What I wanted to happen 3) What actually happened 4) Any output if applicable
threads that don't follow this template don't get answered because they ask wrong, nobody will milk these parts out of someone |

This isn't really an issue at all, and I've been here more than a good 90%-95% of everyone here.
People only link to the Wiki when it's a reply that makes sense because the original poster was either stupid, just clueless or lacking in knowledge about scripting so that explaining to him would be useless, or lazy. Also, relevant particular wiki articles are relevant and quality replies. |

I agree with morash.
What we did learn has been on the wiki. And what we learn from youtube was from the wiki. The wiki basically fuels everything. Let me remind you, this is NOT regular Lua. Yes, it's similar, but you can't go anywhere else and learn rbx.Lua.
Sometimes it's good not to spoon feed a newer scripter, and give them the wiki and have them learn it independently.
And, I don't know about the other scripters here, but learning to be independent when learning scripting is good. Because, in my opinion, working alone scripting is a whole lot easier, it's not like building where you can do it a few different ways. There's one way (not literally, but you get the point) to scripting. |
