Take a thumbnail like this, i know how to take thumbnails but ones that can change the way the gift looks..

he used a decal on a transparent brick and set the models camera so that's all you see in the model picture

You clone the Camera from studio's Workspace, put it inside the model and name it ThumbnailCamera. To get it to look like this specifically he used a FieldOfView of 20 on the camera. I do that for my models too, like this one:
