"An analysis of dental surveys conducted in England and the United States by the British Medical Journal found Americans on average have more missing teeth, 7.31, than the British, 6.97."
Before you claim illegitimacy of the British Medical Journal, it is probably one of the most reliable sources out there. |

You didn't just cite a British source for proof of a pro-british argument stance did you?
That's not very smart my dude |

Bloodborne, I just commented on this.
'The BMJ is a weekly peer-reviewed medical journal. It is one of the world's oldest general medical journals'
I assume you do not take science. Or understand what it is. Peer reviewed means its being tested by other sciences. Furthermore it is a primary source of information.
Do you honestly think one of the most respectable medical journals in the world? would lie on a piece of information, for the sake of disproving a 'stereotype' and potentially damage its reputation.
But yeah, ignorant americans, look at the facts please. |

Go on the British medical journal. To newsroom, it'll be on 17th of december.
I think the main reason for this, (although I have not fully read the paper) from my guess is the fact dental treatment is free in the UK up till the age of 18, meaning poor habits and treatment e.g braces, can be done for free. Meaning the lower classes are considerably better off. |

Chaarusu, If you're commenting on the teeth allignment, i cannot find a study.
However, British dentistry is free until 18, american is not I believe.
This means problems such as poor allignment or extra teeth can easily be fixed in the teens when some of these problems arise (another major factor being wisdom teeth, but both countries it costs). This means (with some extrapolation) I'd expect teeth to be in better condition too. |

Shadow, thats not the point.
It kind of takes one of the american stereotypes on british, and disproves a large proportion of it.
0.34, is kind of large too in the grand scheme.

Haha, american dentistry "presumably not free"?
Kid, even life insurance isn't free. Just somewhat affordable until some major medical bill comes in. |

not sure how it disproves the stereotype considering the stereotype is that brits have worse looking teeth, not less
.34 is not even half a tooth? |

Dyn, I have no idea on american systems.
All i can really say, is only dentistry is kind of medical which you pay for in the UK.
Whereas, I know america you need insurance, which you are saying. I don't see why you call me kid, surely from the citing of sources, you can understand I'm over the age of the 12 year olds people refer to as kids on this game. |

Shadow, As i said, You pay for dentistry at all ages, meaning I'd presume, less people go for dentistry in there critical youth years (adult teeth developing). Which would suggest their teeth look worse.
Also teeth removing is mostly due to tooth decay, when plaque goes up into the gum. Due to lack of brushing. So would suggest other teeth are damaged some what. Also I cannot say on genetics influencing the likelyhood of teeth like wisdom teeth being removed in americans etc. Which could be the factor.
Also i think a slightly damaged tooth looks better than no tooth at all.
I think the american movie stars with whitened teeth, kind of made this stereotype seem true for americans.
