| To clarify, I don't think conscientious objector status is wrong. But I also don't think that anyone so morally opposed to war that they must opt out of service is qualified to be president, in which case they would be playing a significant role in the military and world affairs. |

To be fair though, the Vietnam war was an absolutely brutal and colossal failure.
And Bernie isn't 100% anti-war, he's just against the United States being the World Police. |

@Phoniex,
I should hope so. I'm no warmonger, but I think it necessary for a president to be able to make sound decisions in time of war, influenced by conditions over convictions.
@Catzilla,
What do you mean? |

| Except the Vietnam War had no business even being fought by America. It all stems from "containment", which caused more harm than good to the world overall. |

| How do you imagine Bernie might respond to the Middle Eastern CrISIS if he was elected? Because it can be said that America has no business being there either (and it has been said, time and time again). |

| Except the Middle East has a wealth of resources (most notably oil, of course) and America is allied with several countries over there, including Israel and Turkey. Vietnam, meanwhile, had no valuable resources and was barely allied with South Vietnam, again because of containment. |

| Would Bernie Sanders have any interest in most of those resources since he's so adamant about his position on climate change and fossil fuels? |

| The president cannot declare war without congressional approval, and knowing the amount of lobbyists that influence Congress, they would vote "yes" because of the oil. Of course that's assuming Sanders would actually issue a request for war in the first place. |
