| In my school there are a good amount of marching band kids in my grade and they were second best in the state or something and they recently got back from Disney world and they're always saying how tough it is and that they work so hard and that they're always in pain, well in pain from what? They do thirty yard sprints at their practices (without instruments) and they are just marching around blowing into brass and they act like it's a big deal. A girl in my Geometry class was saying how she hurt her knee but what marching? How bout clipped in a football game which hurts like a mother. So my opinion, marching band isn't a sport because all sports are computations but not all computations are sports |

as someone has played instruments in school and sports, i'd say music is almost as draining as sports. it's not a sport, but it takes a lot out of you similar to sports.

it depends which string instrument vik. i wouldnt expect any strings to be in marching band, but my school doesnt have a marching band. in horizontal instruments (guitar, electric bass, etc) my wrist gets tired when i have to play 16th notes for a few phrases, and in vertical instruments (double bass, cello, etc) my bow arm gets tired after about an hour.

"stringed instruments are easy, just your shoulders can get sore"
played cello forever and i will say that i have only gotten sore/tired twice
i regularly play shows that are 3 hours long and rehearsals for 6 or so hours of essentially uninterrupted playing |

i'm not as experienced in cello as i am double bass, but the left hand postures are awkward for me cause i have really long skinny fingers.

i play the double bass too, for me its my hand that always hurts rather than my shoulder
we did Clocks by coldplay, and for the bass it's pretty much just bowing the same sixteenth notes over and over, sometimes changing the notes for 2 pages, and your hand hurts af
obviously not as bad as sports though |

I'm in marching band and I play tennis. Marching band is tough depending on who your drum major is. My band camp hours were from 9am-9pm. We conditioned like we condition for tennis. We did the same exercises as the football team did at the same time they did, just longer than them. We score points, we have competitions, we preform on a field. Is it a sport? No comment. I have no idea what to call it.
Our marching band made state. I was satisfied, sport or not. |

Marching band can be as tougher or tougher then most sports. Marching band itself is not a sport.
