SHIP SYSTEMS BOOTING, PLEASE WAIT WARMLY. . .. ... SHIP SYSTEMS BOOTED, WELCOME USER: ARNOLD JAEGER SHIP RUNNING ON UTOPIA OS PLEASE ALERT AN ADMINISTRATOR IF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS NOT IN ORDER.
[Your name?: Arnold “Arn” Hoenzollern Jaeger]
[Your gender?: Male]
[Your age?: 26]
[What do you look like, and what are you wearing?: I have been called a scarecrow, sometimes “Ichabod Crane” by the more creative. I am tall and gaunt. Awkward by birth as much as my persona. I stopped growing at 6’1’’, and thus far my dark brown hair only falls to my shoulders, though I have not cut it in half a year. I am permanently slender due to a lightning-quick metabolism. This is the extent of any notable features to me. I am unremarkable- not exceptionally ugly, but nor am I handsome- otherwise. I am plain and my hair is straight, which is part of the reason I choose to grow it out so long. My mother often told me I was meant to lead a boring life, from my face. My friends all agreed, and only one woman besides her ever loved this face. Or pretended to.]
[Why are you leaving the Earth? Put quite simply, there is nothing left for me here. I’ve lost friends, the one I loved left me, and I’m quite done with what this miserable blue marble has to offer. Otherwise I intend to prove all those who believed me to be a dull individual wrong.]
[Do you recall your past life? If so, speak about it. If the memories are too bitter, then let your past be left unsaid. I’ll refrain from speaking much of my life post-college, but due to the nature of my mission I will keep as few secrets as possible. I was born in a town in the American state of Washington, in a less-than-noteworthy township near Seattle. As I mentioned, I was a plain child with typical, unremarkable interests. Except my writing. I loved writing and reading, more so than the average child. I was far from an intellectual- I simply loved fiction. Through study of other styles, my writing skill became modestly developed and I was proud of something. But my mother never knew about the writing. My father was rarely around, having worked in law enforcement, so it was always just me and her when I wasn’t at school, which was often. She never thought much of me- I was a straight B student, with an A in electives and the occasional C in my core classes. By High School I became more social and even scraped together a decent social life. That was when I met Lilienne, but I’m going to speak as little of that as I can. I managed to get into the College in Seattle, and I kept my social life and my unremarkable self until the last year. My best friend slept with Lilienne, shattered my heart, and rallied all of our friends against me through use of false rumor. None of them believed me. I won’t say much else, except that I graduated with a Masters in Theoretical Physics and didn’t get a decent job afterwards. This is, to be honest, the best chance I have at making something out of myself.]
[Anything else?: I am reasonably talented with technology, though I never found all that much interest in it until I began my training. I am also a very talented distance runner.]

The Dark flickers before the eyes of Man. It cheats them, robs them, steals their heart and returns it to sender. You've been cheated on by friend and lover, and there's nothing of interest here for you on Earth. An overreaction to Human nature? Perhaps. But, you too carry the Fault of Man and the Curse of Dark upon you. Humans are creatures of the Dark, after all. You can't run from it forever, no matter how far into space you go.
And so, here you are. You're sat in the fairly-cramped single-seat cockpit of your newly-bought spaceship. This cockpit is located at the front of the ship. In front of you is the windshield, allowing you to see out into the ship hangar. Also in front of enter stick for controlling your ship. At your feet are two rudder pedals. On your left armrest is the throttle, and on the right armrest are several buttons with different friendly colors. From your VR training, you know that these buttons are meant to operate the holographic computer, as well as actually switching it on.
Although the area is cramped, there's enough room for you to get up and head to the other rooms within the ship. Though, there aren't very many other rooms.
SHIP ROOMS: [Cockpit] [Crew Quarters 1/2]* [Cargo Hold] [Kitchen/Sitting Area] [Bathroom]** *In order to recruit companions onto your ship, you must have enough room for them and yourself in your Crew Quarters. There are two spots open in your Crew Quarters, and you are currently taking up one of them. The Crew Quarters, like the rest of your ship, can be upgraded. **The Bathroom is very small and uncomfortable. It has a toilet and a shower.
The holographic computer boots itself up, and its screen pops up in front of your windshield, though it isn't opaque and you can still see through to your windshield. Currently, the holographic screen is blue, with white text on it.
WELCOME PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING BEFORE TAKING FLIGHT
PLEASE CHOOSE THE COLOR OF YOUR HOLOGRAPHIC COMPUTER SCREEN: PLEASE CHOOSE THE COLOR OF YOUR SHIP LIGHTS: PLEASE ENTER YOUR SHIP NAME: |

Arn sighed to himself. There had been a time when a simulated version of this encounter had bewildered and amazed him. But after going through the exercise myriad times before this during the VR training.
"Oh well," he said aloud, "one more time won't hurt..."
He placed his hands on the keyboard in front of him and quickly answered each of the prompts.
Cyan for the color of the screen. It was Lilienne's favorite color, and the site of it gave him a very rare feeling of fondness for a memory. Strange to think of, but it was the truth. Text should be white, as it might stand out well on the screen.
White for the ship lights. Darkness was a color which dominated the skies outside Earth's atmosphere, and nothing pierced the darkness like the pure, colorless monotone king that was "white light."
He had thought long and hard about his ship's name, and eventually settled on a name which reminded him, again, of a very rare sort of memory from his past- a fond one. In this case, it was a reference to a beloved, if outdated, television show and movie series.

Your screen and holographic keyboard change to a cyan color, a color that brings back memories of a time gone. A time that's passed on, a time that will never return to you. Beat on then, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. Man still believes in the American Dream, why not still believe in something more petty than that: love?
The dark of your ship is illuminated slightly by the white light that's switched on. It seems you can change the intensity of it to fit your needs, but as of now, a comfortable dark surrounds you. Everything important is illuminated by that white light. That blank absence of color that, when passed through a prism, suddenly becomes a beautiful rainbow, vibrant with color and with life. This reminds you of Lilienne, the gone girl who was just as full of life. So full of life, so full of love, both of which were given freely to your best friend.
This is exactly like you, isn't it? Stay against the current of time. Time flows forward to the future, but you keep trying to grasp at the past. Colors of love gone fill your ship, and a TV show never to return lends a name to your ship.
Now, your ship was ready. It tilts upward, and the ceiling opens up. The windshield tints itself to protect your eyes from the harshness of the sun's rays. All that's left to do now is push the throttle up, and leave this place behind. |

Arn's thoughts served to be a final goodbye to his old home, to those blue, blue skies which had made him less empty, possibly even happy at times, those blue eyes which had reminded him of the blue in Lilienne's eyes. To that brown dirt and the creme color of the sand, which matched Lilienne's skin, and the dark brown of wet soil which reminded him of her hair. It had never been kind to him, but what did that matter? A home was a home, and suddenly now he felt true fear at the prospect of leaving it, to be emotionally alone as always but now also physically so.
He was leaving behind memories, those of Lilienne and of Star Trek and his mother who, though she may have been callus and seemingly unfeeling, had always loved him. But it was also a goodbye to the bad ones, of that life and warmth Lilienne had given him like a private sun which he'd had all to himself being taken by the one he had called his best friend.
Yet still, it was a home he would miss. Surely, he would see Earth again in his lifetime. But it would not be a return. He knew that after being so accustomed to his ship and the emptiness of space he would never see Earth as he did now again. So he looked up at those blue, blue skies, remembered the brown dirt and the creme color of the sand and the dark brown of wet earth, and he pushed the throttle. "Goodbye," he whispered. It carried a hushed tone of finality. |

You said your goodbyes all at once. Goodbye to Lilienne, goodbye to your mother, goodbye to Star Trek, goodbye to modern life. It's rubbish anyway, isn't it? As the engines roar and start up, you can almost hear everything on Earth saying goodbye to you, as well.
Your ship tears through the skies and the clouds, then through the atmosphere. Before you know it, you're free. Earth is behind you now, along with Mother Nature and the rest of her blessings and curses. Gone are the days of yesterday. It's time to go with the flow of time and look towards the future. You'll be happier that way, certainly.
All around, you can see stars and distant planets within your solar system. You could go fly to and visit one of the planets you've learned about, no doubt, within your solar system. Or, you could bring up your ship's computer and see what other interesting locations are around. |

Arn wastes no time around the sun he's spent his life in. He sets a course straight for the edge of the solar system, a safe distance outside of the Oort Cloud- Interstellar Space.
For the Sun was mortal, with an end some distance away bust still in the future. He suddenly felt adrenaline piercing through the sadness, a grin coming to his face and this deep sense of peace. He was an astronomer, an astronaut, an explorer. "Columbus has nothing on me!" he cried.
Quickly snapping out of his daze, still grinning, Jaeger pulled up the interface and looked for notable locations, somewhere to see which may or may not have been seen before. He knew humans had escaped before him, and he was somewhat eager to see what had brought them out here.
((Just out of curiosity, have other planets been colonized? Do I have a limited amount of fuel and cash to purchase fuel with? Will there be stations or anything outside of our system?)) |

(Other planets have been colonized. It'd be a bit boring if all the planets were just barren wastelands. You do not have a limited amount of fuel, your ship operates on something similar to an EM Drive and doesn't require fuel. You do have a limited amount of cash. The accepted currency in every place except for Earth is Credits. There's a reason Earth doesn't use Credits, which you may find out later. You don't have any Credits currently.)
You shout to yourself, and to the silence all around you. When your voice ceases to echo, it feels quieter than it has before. It's as though some submicroscopic creatures were frightened by your cry and escaped from your ship. Though, it's unlikely this actually happened.
Your ship approaches the edge of the solar system. At this point, you switch on your computer's holographic screen again, and a list of locations outside of your home solar system are brought up for you.

"Space Station forty-two forty-two..." He mumbled a moment, yearning to break the silence. It occured to him as he read through the list just how new he was to this universe.
He had to find a ship mate, and a decent job to earn some Creds for upgrades. "I'll have to find a real loser for this ship..." He felt a bit resentful now at his choice of ship, but the Enterprise was good enough for him and he knew it, so the feeling faded quickly.
"Well, I'm a new man... Let's see if this 'new man' is charismatic enough to fool someone onto this boat."
He set his ship for the Space Station. Jobs, shipmates, hopefully everything could be found there.
Just in case, he performed an extranet search to glean information about the planets Xelthous and Solus, and the last option entitled "The Cabin." After hitting the space station he would try out these places.
As the ship sped away from Earth, from the sun, and from the emptiness of his old life. He had a new one, now, and an entire galaxy- no, universe- to fill it up. |

You select Space Station 4242. In doing so, you've set a course to it. Pushing up the throttle, a warp bubble forms around your ship. In an instant, the celestial bodies all around behind zooming by your view. Soon, you arrive at a spot in space. The bubble collapses, and you see the station ahead of you.
Space Station 4242 is a large, multi-tiered tower made of some dark grey metal. There are several windows adorning the tower, though they're tinted so you can't see in, but people can see out. You can feel the eyes of people within the station looking at you.
The station is organized like a tower, but it's a rather peculiar one. From the most part, you can make out the individual floors, and there are quite a few of them. These floors are shaped like large disks, all just jutting out from the center of the tower. The windows are on the sides of these disks, and several different colored glowing lights are at the top of each one. As well as the windows being on the side of the disks, they're also on the side of the tall central tower that goes straight through the center of all the disks, keeping them together.
Space Station 4242 almost looks like a large tree, the disks climbing up the central tower like vines. At the very top, you can see a giant blue neon sign reading "SPACE STATION 4242." By the looks of it, you'll be entering into the station from the top.
Before you do anything of the sort though, you look up Xelthous, Solus, and The Cabin on the aptly named "Spacenet." You find yourself a bit interested in this Spacenet. You're sure that later, when you have more free time, you could find quite a few interesting websites on this Spacenet.
>Planet Xelthous - A planet that once thrived solely on nature's givings. It is now filled with machinations, buildings, and robotic constructs. Living on this planet is a race of sentient machines, called the "Xenthians." The Xenthians are peaceful most of the time, but they can turn hostile very quickly.
>Planet Solus - A fertile forest planet. Its blessings of nature and beauty are bestowed on it by the bright sun nearby. The planet has been colonized by a race of sentient planet-like people, known as "Solians." They require the bright rays of the sun to survive, though they are able to store large amounts of solar energy in order to last through the night. They are intelligent. They are aware of alien life. They are peaceful.
>The Cabin - A log cabin floating around in space. Two Human residents and one Divine resident appear to live in the home. Reports say they are not outwardly hostile. One of the Human residents is the owner of "Responsible Girl's Burger Shack." |

Arn moved to dock the Enterprise in the station, closing out of the aptly named Spacenet. His palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms were heavy. He felt vomit rising, threatening to defecate his suit already. It was not mom's spaghetti.
He knew he would be faced with many things he didn't understand as he walked in, so he prepared himself then and there, inside the ship, so as not to lose his lunch. To put it simply, he was nervous. Terrified, even.
And yet, the source of this terror was not out of the strange, alien world he would be soon entering. But rather, it was a fear coming of his regret of past mistakes, and worry about the chances of repeating them.
He hailed the station and requested permission to dock. |

(I apologize, but I forgot to make note of the fact you didn't include clothing in your CS. I do need to know what your character is wearing.)
Your ship lands on a designated zone at the top of the tower. Landing, you find, is fairly intuitive and easy to do. You decide that this is probably due to the VR training you went through before leaving Earth.
As you land on one of the many parking spots at the top of the tower, which is larger in circumference than the other disks, you see the blue neon lights switch on around your ship. The blue light fills you with a sense of hope for the future. It is the color of hope, after all. Maybe you should've filled your life with more hopeful blue, rather than a melancholy sort of blue. Maybe you should've allowed
As you ponder the blue, your holographic computer screen pops up in the color of Lilienne. Text soon appears on the screen.
"Welcome to Space Station 4242. Please select the floor you'd like to be brought to. >Floor 1 - The Engines and Systems >Floor 2 - The Working Sector >Floor 3 - The Shipping Sector >Floor 4 - The Market Stalls >Floor 5 - The Restaurants >Floor 6 - Ship Repair Shop >Floor 7 - The Bar >Floor 8 - The Inn >Floor 9 - The Sauna and Relaxation Area >Floor 10 - The Cinema >Floor 11 - The Medbay >Floor 12 - The Universal Chapel" |

((I meant to put that in but deleted the part of the CS that had it, sorry.
His clothing is standard fare, matching his plain appearance. A plain grey hoodie, white t-shirt, and blue-jeans is very typical of him, though he does have a few "ironic" shirts from really old TV shows and such.
He wears a pair of worn sneakers and the same brand of socks most of the time.))
Arn considered these colors. Hope... He remembered this from the old Green Lantern comics he read at one point. Blue had always been sadness to him, but now perhaps it truly was the color of hope.
He selected the "Shipping Sector" on his screen. Hopefully he would find a friendly face to join him and a job. Maybe he could carry some cargo for a business lord or something boring like that to get him started. |

You select Floor 3, and the floor beneath your ship begins taking you down the tower. As you go, you can see the other floors passing you by, all filled with people of various race and species. You even spot a few Humans.
From the amount of floors you've passed up, you guess that the numbering of floors for this station goes bottom-to-top, with the bottom-most floor being Floor 1. Soon enough, your ship arrives at Floor 3. Your ship is set down on what seems to be a conveyor belt. The piece of floor that brought you down here ascends back up to the top of the tower. As it does this, your ship moves along the conveyor belt, and eventually arrives at a parking space, where there are other ships stationed. Your holographic computer screen pops up again for a moment.
"You have arrived on Floor 3. You may bring your ship to any other floor from here, or use our station's person-elevators to navigate to other floors. When you wish to conclude your visit to Space Station 4242, please select 'Exit Station,' and you and your ship will be brought out of the station and back to the roof. Thank you for choosing Space Station 4242."
Looking out, there really wasn't very much of interest here. Just a bunch of people carrying boxes around to different areas and space pods. You see a Human sitting on top of a crate, with his arms folded. He seems to be looking over everyone, and is probably the boss here.
Towards the back, you see the elevator mentioned on your holographic computer screen. |

Arn looked at the floor, feeling a bit forlorn. He quickly moved out of his seat and exited the ship. He had expected something a bit more likely for employment, but then an idea occurred to him.
He strode across the great corridor, careful to avoid any of the men moving the boxes to and fro, and approached the supposed boss. He did his best to suck in air and look a bit confident, zipping up his hoodie for good measure.
He utterly failed as soon as he spoke. "S- Uhm, Sir?" he stammered, coughing right after to play it off. He stood there waiting, looking up at the man on the box. If anyone was going to be giving him a job, it was this man. |

The man upon the crate takes note of you and steps down from the crate. He's a tall, tan, muscular, and all-around imposing figure. His dark brown hair is slicked back and a short full beard clings to his rough face.
This man is wearing a pair of black dress pants and a white dress shirt with a dark grey tie. Over this shirt is a red waistcoat, and over that is a heavy dark grey trench coat, the color of the coat matching the tie perfectly. Atop his head and slicked back hair is a dark grey flatcap hat.
You find yourself staring into a pair of deep blue eyes. The eyes blink, and the man removes a cigar from his mouth, blowing a bit of smoke out away from you. Then, he looks back at you, his blue eyes seeming to demand that you speak your mind. |

As the man devoted his attention to Arn, the young explorer suddenly felt a bit more confident. The feeling was strange and alien to Jaeger, but he found that he liked it.
"I just arrived here and I'm looking for a job," he said quite bluntly. "I have a modest but capable ship and a cargo hold, and room for one more passenger. You wouldn't happen to be short on freighters, would you? You'll find that if you are, I'll work for less than the average pilot and I'll take whatever cargo you need to anywhere you need it to go." He stood there, looking at the man and being careful not to assume too much but laying out his resume in words.
Then, just as quickly, Arnold added, "And I'm a fairly capable pilot. I ranked second in my class in the VR training on Earth." He was lying- he'd ranked first, but he wanted to come off a bit less pretentious than he thought he sounded. |

The man continues to stare at you from behind his cold blue eyes. After a moment, he blinks and nods to you. He takes his cigar back between his lips, then turns, pointing out a stack of wooden crates.
After a brief moment, he takes the cigar out of his mouth and blows out some more smoke. "Deliver to the Responsible Girl's Burger Shack," he says in a rough voice. A voice that carries more meaning itself than the words it produces. A voice that, while powerful, isn't booming nor aggressive. "Will pay when you return," he adds, "be safe." |

Arn gave the man proper farewells and set off quickly. Within ten minutes he had brought the crates over to his ship and stacked them up.
He then opened the cargo bay door and moved each crate into the hold. In all, the whole ordeal took about fifteen minutes. He hoped he didn't look stupid working on his own in front of his shabby ship, but then, he reminded himself, he knew none of these people, and his ship was much cleaner than most of the others, and probably faster. Jaeger smiled to himself at that thought, and wondered if there were racing circuits for ships.
Keeping this on his mind, Jaeger closed and secured the cargo hold, entering the Enterprise through there and moving through the ship to the cockpit. He sat down and switched the Enterprise on, pulling up his holographic computer. /Lilienne.../
He opened the hangar remotely and exited the station, watching carefully to make sure he didn't scrape a wing. As he pulled out he set a course for the Responsible Girl's Burger Shack and pulled up the Spacenet.
"Craig's List." That was his search query. He hoped to find a wikipedia page which would lead him to the Spacenet equivalent or perhaps the site itself (perhaps Craig's List was a universal constant).
With all this done, Arn set off for the Burger Shack and wondered at the world as he surfed the Space Web. |

You manage to load all the crates into your ship, then move to take a seat in the cockpit. Your ship is pulled onto the conveyor belt by metal hooks. This conveyor belt seems to have switched directions and brings you to the lift that originally brought you down. Your ship is set down on the lift, and you're brought up to the roof. Soon after, you carefully fly off of Space Station 4242.
Once you've achieved some distance from the station, you pull up your holographic computer and set a course for the Responsible Girl's Burger Shack. On the way there, you do a bit of research on Craig's List. Soon enough, you find the Spacenet equivalent of it, titled StarAds. It works just the same way as Craig's list, though with a much nicer layout and format. There's all kinds of things here, and you're sure you can find what it is you're looking for.
You close out of StarAds for now and spend a bit of time surfing the other parts of the Space Web. You find a few websites for games, some for Spacenet videos, and a few websites related to the news.
Your web surfing is cut short once you've warped to the Responsible Girl's Burger Shack. Upon your arrival, you see a very quaint and homey building. It has a friendly yellow paint on the outside and a nice red roof. The building is built on a floating piece of ground, complete with dirt and grass. Looking at the building, you're reminded of the fast food restaurants back on Earth.
However, this one has a certain atmosphere to it. Just from looking at the building, you feel a certain sense of peace. There's a parking lot for your ship at the back and at the front of the Burger Shack. There's only one spaceship currently parked here, however. Mounted on the roof of the Burger Shack is a neon yellow sign reading "Responsible Girl's Burger Shack!" in bright, friendly letters. The font on the sign is girly, cute, and friendly. It looks like this sign was handmade with a certain handwriting style in mind. Posted on one of the front windows of the Burger Shack is a note reading "Looking for friendly helpers~! Come see me inside!" |

Before exiting the ship, Arn created an ad on Space Ads, requesting a shipmate. He would check it some time to see if anyone was interested.
For the time being, however, Jaeger left the ship and carried the order forms (I'm assuming there were some with the cargo) into the restaurant. 'This is boring,' he thought to himself. He needed something more interesting. Once he had gained enough credits he would look into smuggling, or perhaps specimen fetching for a space zoo or something of that sort.
He looked around for a manager. |

The cargo form, you find, are tacked onto one of the crates. You create your ad on StarAds, with no real specifications on what kind of shipmate you're looking for. You disembark with the cargo form and head into the Burger Shack. Inside, it's even more peaceful than the outside.
The place smells of fast food, but it's not a disgusting greasy smell. It's a wondrous, nice scent. You think you smell a few nice spices in there too. As you enter, a little bell above the door rings.
"Coming~" you hear a girl's voice chime from somewhere in the kitchen. Soon, a young Human girl who looks to be around fifteen comes out of the kitchen. While she /looks/ fifteen, you somehow doubt that's her actual age. She's probably much older, if she's working in a place like this.
The girl is wearing a light grey t-shirt with dark grey hearts on it. She's wearing a light blue skirt and a pair of white tennis shoes. Over her shirt is a yellow apron. She has a cute and pretty face with happy and friendly light-brown eyes. Her short hair is a light-brown color as well, and it's tied back in a ponytail with a yellow ribbon. Some of her hair falls over her forehead in a rather adorable fashion.
Set upon her face is a genuine smile, a smile that shows her delight at existing. It's rare that you see a warm and happy smile like this one. You think that the last time you saw such a smile was on Lilienne's face.
"Welcome~" she says to you sweetly, "I don't think I've seen you around before, do you want some time to think about your order?" |

Arn looked around, enjoying himself as the scent of food entered his nose, of such quality that it made his mouth water. He didn't want to get caught eating in what equated to a Space Age- Hooters. He almost lost his breath at the site of the girl.
That light on her face made him think so much of Lilienne. He was starting to hate the thought. 'I said goodbye to all that,' he reminded himself silently before speaking to her, trying to push the thoughts out of his mind. "Uh... Actually I was here to just deliver something... from, uh... Station... 4242." He was trying (and failing) to keep his eyes from meeting hers. He was, what, in his late-twenties? This girl couldn't be older than twenty-two.
The pilot of the Enterprise made sure to refrain from telling her the real reason he couldn't order anything. 'I don't have any credits,' he wanted to say. 'That's why I'm carrying out a job for a complete stranger.' No more of this. He would not be doing another lame, random cargo run after this one, unless it took him through a warzone or some place where he could find a way out of this boring-ass shipping life.
He showed her the holo-board with the forms on it. "Is your manager around?" he asked finally. |

You present the simple piece of paper where the contents of the cargo boxes were handwritten. The cute girl leans over the counter to look at the form. In doing so, the sweet scent of food is gone and replaced with the even sweeter scent of her hair. There was no particular scent sprayed into her hair, the scent was entirely natural. She smelled like a girl, and that was a very nice smell.
She smiles and brings herself back behind the counter. "I'm the manager," she informs you, before considerately adding, "Do you want some help bringing my order inside?" |

Arnold blinked. At all of it. The smell, the smile, the tone of her voice, the new information. It was all hitting him simultaneously, it seemed, and he couldn't get Lilienne out of his mind at first.
Eventually he managed a response. "N- no, ma'am." He raised his hands, shaking his head. "I'll get it all in. Do you want me to come in the back or...?" |
