I saw an RP on RPN and one of the rules was that there were 6 sentences per post minimum and people needed to post at least 5 posts a week. Why??????

probably correlating long, though-out posts with quality RP

while the two aren't mutually exclusive (indeed, they often go hand-in-hand) it's pretty stifling to impose those limitations on someone's posting

Most RPs I've ever taken part in have an activity limit like that. I guess it's some rule implemented just to make sure that the thread doesn't get lost and/or die. But to be fair, it will put off people who aren't as active.

Minimum Posting Guidelines != Quality / Quantity

It's not really asking a lot, when you think about it. Six sentences is like nothing, lol. Five posts a week isn't that much either, especially for how little you actually have to write. And if it pains you so much to do so little, I suggest getting a new hobby.

RPN is divided on categories, you probably went to a Casual RP, not a Detailed one.

I understand the rule. Personally, I much prefer detailed posts. They feel much more like a novel and make it easier to visualise vivid pictures than, say, a quick spurt of poorly-chosen words would. But sometimes a short response is best. In a conversation between two characters, you wouldn't want someone going off on a tangent with their character fidgeting and faffing and making a scene of themselves with filler text when all that is necessary is a quick scrap of dialogue. It's all about the situation.

I suggest you leave this forum and go to an advanced roleplaying forum where they have like 10 paragraphs of supplementary material and backstory, an entire terminology and made-up religion for each RP and they require 10 paragraphs minimum with 10 sentences in each paragraph, with 10 posts a week minimum.

@Deshoras

It was a casual RP and it was clear that the OP wanted quantity over quality.

I'm not understanding your logic here.

op thats probably because the op wants a fast pace and quick casual rp thats accessible, and to try and enforce it they put in that rule

im not saying its right but

eh

last time i checked there, most rps on rp nation dont really push that rule tho

Yeah, because writing six sentences is such a hassle. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that six sentences is too much for any roleplay ever made. Seriously, I'm not a novelist. Six sentences, and that's just the MINIMUM? It's ridiculous. Like you said, just go write 10 paragraphs if you think it's so easy to write six sentences- OH WAIT LOOK I JUST WROTE SEVEN SENTENCES WOW I'M A LITERARY GENIUS

wait nvm i misread op i saw minimum as maximum for some reason, i dont know why.

i only realized the distinction until now since i came from the printing shop.

ever since i first started learning english that is one of the many things that has plagued me, and now still it has plagued me.

but honestly six sentences isnt that hard to really fill out. i mean, that's like, a singular medium sized paragraph. if you can do any decent description, or perhaps even add incite to your characters thoughts, sentences fill up quite quickly. oh jeez, i already wrote six sentences. now seven! now eight! oh jeez, i guess i must be a novelist then. time to write my next best seller! bye!

Quality of quantity, always. To have a minimum length rule is rather asinine, in my opinion.
You could describe a scene in two descriptive sentences, or go on and on with redundant details to stretch a post to match the limit.
The way I see it, having a minimum length rule causes worse posts, not better.

Why do you go to RPN in the first place? We all know it's a terrible place.

As expected in a casual RP?

RPing loses its charm when deadlines are imposed on it. I get it, you can't drop off the face of the earth while playing a crucial role in a plot, but it's a miserable feeling when you're busy all week and feel obligated to RP at the same time.
