I have found a purely server-sided issue in how games launch: ROBLOX servers treat browsers reporting as Apple Safari (at least on Mac) as not having the launcher plugin installed.
I know this is server side because to get rid of it, all I have to do is tell Safari to report that it is Google Chrome and it works fine.
The way browsers work, basically, is like follows:
You type URL Browser sends URL plus HTTP get request, plus a browser ID tag saying what browser it is, to the DNS servers, where the URL is translated to an IP.
All I did to get rid of this issue was tell my browser to send a false ID tag. By default, it tells the server it is Safari (because, well, it's Safari). I overrode this setting and told the server I was using Google Chrome. I was successfully able to launch a game. This is NOT an issue with my browser, my client, or my ROBLOX launcher plugin. This is 100% a server issue, and needs to be fixed.
Oh, and by the way, this is not from the maintenance. This started happening at least 48 hours ago. |

@above, not true. Nobody uses it on Windows. It's probably the best browser available for Mac (Firefox sucks and Chrome tracks everything you do)
And did either of you read my post? I explained IN DETAIL what the issue was. "Use a different browser" is not acceptable. Safari works fine, there's nothing wrong with my browser, it is entirely SERVER SIDE. In case you're stupid enough to not know what that means, it means it's ROBLOX'S FAULT! NOT MINE! "Use a different browser" is completely unacceptable because this is a server-sided issue that has a simple fix. A new programmer probably made a mistake and it wasn't debugged before release and ROBLOX hasn't caught it yet, since an error like this is fairly easy to create. HOWEVER it is also fairly easy to fix. It would take one of their senior developers five to ten minutes to find and fix the bug, they just need to put that time in.
And in case you don't want to go back to the OP, I'll spell it out again. I tell Safari to report that it's Chrome, and it works fine. This does NOT make it Chrome, it just makes the server THINK it's Chrome. And because different, NON-BUGGY SERVER-SIDED code executes, it launches the game. I don't want to have to tell Safari to always report as Chrome, mainly because it will cause a lot of compatibility issues at other sites. |

did you come here to get your issue fixed or to yell at random people because you learned how to fake your user agent and pretend to be a genius

| I came here to get my issue fixed. And I'm saying that faking my user agent is not an acceptable long-term option. This is the browser I use for literally everything else. I keep repeating the fact that I am faking the user agent BECAUSE I wanted to nip the Apple-haters in the bud (I get it every time I post a Mac-specific issue on here). I mention it simply because it is evidence that the issue is not with the browser, but with the server, and some people can't understand that. |

How many times can I repeat this, using a different browser is not an option. I'm not complaining about an issue, if I was doing that I would have posted in discussions, OT, or S&I. No, I posted in the tech support subforum because I wanted ROBLOX to be aware of the issue, and I want them to fix it. Is this really so much to ask?
Just because you think I should use Chrome does not mean I want to use Chrome. I have reasons for not wanting to switch browsers beyond Chrome tracking me (by the way, it does more than any other browser in existence…), primarily all of my secret word saves. I just don't understand why it is so difficult for ROBLOX to fix this issue... Literally, if I was one of their developers and I understood the code, it would likely be a matter of fixing a misplaced bracket on an if statement somewhere. Could be found and fixed in five minutes tops.
You can use Chrome and I won't judge you. That being said, I would like to continue using one browser for everything (as I mentioned, I'm not willing to switch completely for numerous reasons) and ROBLOX officially supports the browser I use. Please stop telling me to use a different browser, it won't happen. I want this fixed, and I'm sure others do too.
Don't explode for me asking if I can get a clear bug fixed. Your "solutions" are nothing but workarounds, not true solutions. They address the symptoms of the problem, not the problem itself. If you are so low that you would actively try to keep this issue in place, you can leave now. Otherwise, please try to help. Just because you don't have the problem or are willing/able to work around it is not an excuse to oppose a fix. |

| The point of this forum is to let ROBLOX know about issues. If it's not your problem, don't reply. |

if you don't want to use google chrome, that's fine, just don't come here saying that faking your user agent is such a big deal because your own indiscretions are stopping yourself from fixing your problem and that's not our business. the reason why safari doesn't work is because google chrome provides a bigger backbone for roblox client execution than safari does,so until apple updates safari to include external protocol requests, you won't be able to use roblox.

"the reason why safari doesn't work is because google chrome provides a bigger backbone for roblox client execution than safari does"
Wait, what?
That is not at all the reason -_-
Safari was literally working fine two weeks ago. I uploaded a video of the issue (including faking the user agent and reloading the page) to prove it isn't a browser issue. And because the Chrome version uses "external protocol requests" and switching the user agent to Chrome fixes it, Safari CLEARLY supports them. AS I HAVE BEEN SAYING, it is a COMPLETELY SERVER-SIDED ISSUE!
Here's the video: https://youtu.be/nVfh5QqdYUw
(Yes, that's a legal link since it's YouTube's URL shortener.) |
