| They reduce lag because there is less parts, but they take a lot longer to load since they are complex shapes. Now get out. |

| Blackstride you have to consider something: Decompisitory Geometry. It is the physical surfaces of the objects and how they interact with surfaces. In many cases they can be very complex. But I will agree that they can probably reduce it, since the physics of a Union acts like it is 1 part. |

| There has been no proof that unions reduce lag, in fact, ROBLOX never claimed it to. Stop spreading uninformed opinions. |

That's about it.
Making EVERYTHING a union will take forever to load.
Making EVERYTHING a part will cause faster load time but more base lag.
Need a middle for the two. |

the majority of the 'lag' you will experience is entirely due to part-to-part collision, i.e. literally everything you put together with bricks and are touching
unioning reduces lag by reducing the collisions between these parts, because it is now one part with complex internal geometry however the surface remains unscathed and unaffected by the proximity of the parts; they've been 'unioned'.
unioning a selection will not *always* make the game less laggy, because it still consisted of polygons and if there are no 'extra' polygons to rid itself of, then the lag will not be affected as much.
you cannot just throw out a naked statement like that. there's so much more to this 'lag' than any of you are throwing into the open. the consideration of 'how to stop lag' has existed since the beginning of 3D environments.

Unions should only be used for the following:
Tools like weapons or any handheld tool. Vehicles. Unions are very useful for boats and planes. Unique complex items that won't be duplicated too often. Like a core for a clan base.
If you rely solely unions, you're gonna have a bad time. |

| I've found unions to be more helpful and reduce lag for moving objects, since they reduce the part count although they are harder to originally load. However, you should not make a place solely out of unions. If you want to see what a place with only unions does, go check out Sonagod's Cristophis Fort. |

@Above - Pretty much spot on. From my experience, (and I have played around a lot with thousands of unions vs parts), they really don't make any difference other than if you wish for them to move.
Otherwise, they just appear to contribute to physics lag, especially if they have lots of faces at angles. With complex models, unless they're moving, just use parts. |

| In theory, yes. The reason why games like minecraft don't lag too much is because it only shows the exterior of the object. Thats why if you enter spectator mode in minecraft, and go under the ground, youll notice that its just empty (Except from saves etc). However, games like roblox show all the sides, however union only shows the exterior of multiple parts that are connected. Plus, Less parts = Less "collisions". If you plan to move mass ammounts of objects (EG A train), Then it should reduce lag. |

What if everybody could just get a PC with more than 4 GBs ram and a graphics card... then there would be less lag all around *wow*
