and they say they're the death of comedy because they're loud, annoying, and marketed obnoxiously...
CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY WE LET HOLLYWOOD MAKE FOUR ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS MOVIES SINCE 2007
i am so sick of these terribly animated, grating, awfully written man-scaping accidents showing up with a slapped together movie every two/three years with some terrible pun in their title, official movie posters made in 5 minutes with photoshop, and box-office results that make me want to jump off a bridge every time i see them |

i can't avoid them, if there's ever one out soon and i'm at a movie theatre i'll most likely see a poster for it
also by the way take a look at any of the alvin and the chipmunks posters right now, for any of the movies, they literally have the exact same clipart of them used for 8 years with very minor tweaks |

I hate them because of their extensive marketing... even Frozen wasn't this bad.
you really can't go anywhere without seeing minions key chains, lunchboxes, usb drives, backpacks, pencils, shaved ice machines, wallets, t shirts, tic-tacs, twinkies, Popsicles, pillows, etc.
What I found really ridiculous is that they spent more money on the marketing than they did on the movie... |

for me though marketing can't really break a movie on its own, of course it can be obnoxious and sour expectations but it really doesn't drain anything out of the movie. granted it becomes more apparent that that's possible because the minions movie seems to exist to sell toys and crap to kids, minions was still at very minimum an "okay" movie
the chipmunks aren't advertised as much but they are a much greater and unnecessary form of evil in the world of cinema |

I think the big different in this comparison is that Frozen (hear me out on this) was actually a good movie. despite Disney's over-the-top marketing, where-as Minions is (from what I've heard, I haven't subjugated myself to watching it) just a terrible movie all around. |

| There's lots of factors in how a movie can make money, even if the movies are awful. Many people mentioned merchandise (look at the Smurfs movie. Terrible, but probably made bundles in merch), if it does well overseas, etc. |

wheras i can say that the minions make a lot of money through marketing and products, i really can't think of anywhere i've seen movies like the chipmunks or smurfs series making money outside of having posters everywhere or through actual tickets sales, hell i've never even seen a toy for smurfs or alvin and the chipmunks outside of maybe some happy meal toys or a crayola colouring book i saw when i was in wal-mart in 2010
must be an american thing, idrk |
