As someone with over 60 hours of gameplay here's what I think:
--------------------------------------Pros-------------------------------------------------
Beautiful Open World. (As someone that lives next to Boston, it is just so amazing to see old structures, and just, everything looks amazing)
Several Ways to deal with quests, meaning good for people that like to do different playthroughs.
Customization. Basically every item you pick up can be made into something completely different. I took a basic old pistol and turned it into a sniper rifle that instantly destroys anything in it's way.
Combat. Combat seems the same, but considering you can now make people surrender, and let them go all peacefully, is pretty cool.
Settlement Building. In Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, there was a mod a lot of people used called Wasteland Defense, where you could turn any unpopulated area and turn it into a whole community. Now it's in the base game, and may have less options than the old mod, but it still allows you to do what the mod started.
--------------------------------------Cons--------------------------------------------------
Limited Endings. I'm not gonna spoil anything here, but it seems like you only get two options of factions to side with towards the end, making any reputation you've had with former communities not really matter, unless you get decisions to let them join you, which appears to be very few.
Re-used Level Cells. While going around the map, I found at least four different locations with incredibly similar interiors, meaning they most likely copied and pasted one interior, and re-arranged objects around to make it seem different.
Stealth System. Most people thought it was already bad in the previous games, but now it's just gotten ridiculous. You can just crouch in front of an enemy now, after shooting all of it's friends, and it'll just act like nothing happened, as long as you are staying still.
--------------------------------Overall-Rating----------------------------------------------
It is not trash in my opinion, it still works the same as the past two fallout games, but maybe a bit too similar as them. Other than the few cons that I mentioned, I am just loving the game with all of it's new features.
Make sure to ask your college teacher what about Fallout 4 that he hates. |

Your college teacher is from a different generation to you friend.
He probably played the originals as a teenager, thus he probably hates the newer iterations of the series.
Though to somebody that has never played a fallout game, 4 seems brilliant. To a veteran fallout 4 is terrible.

>Limited Endings
it's not like skyrim had more endings
>Re-used Level Cells.
yes, because Bethesda has one person make all the dungeons, skyrim included
>Stealth System
is that emphasis on stealth? no
i can see why you'd want an expanded stealth mechanic, but it'd end up ruining the game's atmosphere |

"it's not like skyrim had more endings"
Why are we comparing a fallout game to an elder scrolls game?
If anything compare it to new vegas.
"yes, because Bethesda has one person make all the dungeons, skyrim included"
Bethesda is one of the biggest companies in the industry, this is just poor play from them tbh.
"is that emphasis on stealth? no

Stealth has always been possible in fallout, fallout 4 should have a better system for it considering it's the biggest budget fallout game ever and the longest development time, the biggest development team and also the most hyped.

Fallout 4 it's basically Fallout 3 with a several small, but significant changes. There are plenty of improvements.
The graphics aren't amazing, but for a game of F4's size (and especially if you compare it to 3 and NV), they're pretty good. Character creation is a 'huge' improvement over 3 and NV. Combat actually functions properly unlike in 3 and New Vegas. Power armor is actually like power armor rather than just another suit of armor that happens to have higher stats than everything else. The biggest thing that stands out is the ability to build and run your own settlements.
However, even with all the good, it's not perfect.
The story's about as much as you'd expect from Bethesda; bland and uninteresting. It's still as buggy as ever, like almost every other Bethesda game. The dialogue system was butchered majorly. F4 didn't carry over the optional hardcore mode from New Vegas. This game is also less unique than it once was; open-world shooters are even more common than they were when they released F3.
The only things that set this apart from other open-world Action RPG's like this is the power armor (which doesn't make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things) and the ability to build your own settlement. |
