Recently, I saw the old game "Doomspire Deathmatch", bounce back to the front page, and I also, to my dismay, saw it receiving many down votes and comments along the lines of 'It's too simple' among other negative comments. Games, and the way developers create them, have changed and are still changing.

But are they moving away from the basic ideals of ROBLOX?

When ROBLOX was first created, it was a platform for kids to let their imagination run free and design whatever they wanted to, whether simple or complex. No matter what a game was, it was guaranteed to have come from their imagination.

Back then, it could have been something as simple as sitting back and enjoying riding a cart, or as complex as completing an obby. No matter what, people enjoyed it for what it was. And the developers created these games because it meant something to them. They didn't really care how others perceived their works, they were just happy that they had satisfied their imagination, and others saw that and appreciated games like that. Games could be wacky, make little sense, and have no purpose other than to be random. Most games had the stud texture and simple tools such as the linked sword and basic rocket launcher. No two games seemed alike, and you could always find an awesome game that you had never seen before, and could easily tell had come straight from the developer's mind.

Nowadays, however, most games feel the same. It's fairly easy to get tired of seeing nothing but town RPs, murder games, FPS round based games, and all the other games trying to ride the success wave of popular games. Perhaps they feel the same because in a way, they are almost the same. All of them are trying to be the next "Mad Murderer" or "Phantom Forces". Games now also have purpose, complex mechanics, and seem as if they are bound by real world physics. Games feel like they are getting further and further away from that carefree attitude where the imagination defined what was in a game.

Really, the difference between older games and newer ones is that with older games, the imagination truly was the limit, and developers built what THEY wanted to build, while newer games are all just remakes of popular games with just a bit more to make people go to it instead of the one currently popular. Developers are building what others want to see, and what will make them famous and give profit.

There are still a few who dare to let their imagination take flight and make an original game from dreams, and show the world who they truly are through their games, but for the most part, the time where imagination made the game is over.

I truly agree.
I haven't been playing that long, almost 2 years.
But you are so right i don't just play whats in the popular I totally agree with you.
The thing is we are coming down to a generation of people who just always rely on their tech, i'm not gonna lie i like my tech but i don't just waste my life on it like a lot of people do, i'm not very good at creating games, but the thing is if you want change, Make it happen,

Well I think that the games now take a tremendous amount of imagination in comparison to the ones back when I first started playing roblox.

In comparison to what we had in 2008, there is more effort put into them, and that effort requires imagination.

No they don't they require work and time but not imagination there are still people that i think still have hope like floppa88 with the greenwood stuff i think that he/she is really talented and that they have great potential, but at least 90% of the people have no imagination in their minds.

Heres an nice example of what we had on the front page in 2008.

Survive a plane crash,
Sirvive a train crash,
Survive a tsunami,
Survive the zombies,
Survive the speeding wall.

Any 07er or 08er can attest to that.

LOL, someone's favorite games are Apocalypse Rising (a game inspired by DayZ) and Phantom Forces (a complete ripoff of Battlefield games)

Not all of them were amazing but there were so many more interesting games back then if you don't see that well maybe you should just go see for yourself.

it is safe to say that...
almost, if not, all of the games on ROBLOX are not original ideas

but i think applying "all" to that statement makes it sound like an exaggeration
