Don't talk about fallout 4 here, you'll get attacked and people will spoil the ending.

I know, you said you were going to buy it, which brought it to mind, so I figured I'd give you a warning

@corn (Spoiler Alert) After you destroy the Master and the military base where the mutants are being made you 'return' to the vault. After talking to the Overseer he banishes you from the vault. |

I think there's a central theme in the Fallout universe, which is to let go of the past, brave the new world, and rebuild it into something glorious.
In FO1 the people in the vault cower and don't want to leave it so much they actually banish you from it. The overseer himself looks like a caveman, the super mutants themselves essentially de-evolution themselves because they're afraid to brave it in their normal human state that they look to the FEV to mutate them into something stronger but more caveman esque or so. |

It's prevalent in the other interplay/Obsidian fallouts as well too. Haven't played 2 but its the origin of the Enclave which is one the only pre-war organization still left in the world so that should tell you something.
It's very prevalent in New Vegas though, all of the 3 main factions are emulating the past at that point instead of building their own original culture. It's also prevalent in the dlc too
