| Their excuse is that they deserve to steal money (Technically preventing them from getting money) from corporations because they legally can. Also the people who think they are going to get a virus from enabling ads are complete idiots. |

| And also there is the old "The website makes more money than it needs to run." If you say that you should honestly give up any hope at knowing how money and corporations work. |

it's the corporations fault for not preventing Adblock anyway and yes, it's possible. Some sites prevent Adblock.

So if a store doesn't have a security camera and they get robbed the store is bad for not having good security. No, the thief shouldn't rob a store in the first place

It's not that you would get a virus from enabling advertisements, it's that a lot of websites have extremely annoying third party pop-up ads that actually can exploit your computer. It's called Click-jacking, BeeF or basically any type of plugin exploit. However, to be fair all of that could be prevented if you use up-to-date software and anti-virus programs. +It helps not to use XP. |

| Adblock is a good thing. Many have filters that allow non-obtrusive ads to show. If all websites started using non-obtrusive ads, there would be no need for an adblocker.I don't want flashing ads in my face when I'm trying to browse a website- especially the ones that take up half the page. |

@bam: if i could LEGALLY get into a park without paying, why would I pay?
Adblock is perfectly legal, so why would i choose to see ads?

Obviously, the most lawful things aren't the most logical or ethical, contrary to popular belief.
I wouldn't compare ads to a zoo. I would compare it to a free show with commercials.
You have the choice to take a break, go to the bathroom, etc. while the commercials are on. You will miss the commercials and never know what they were about, and therefore you won't be supporting the advertiser. If you aren't supporting the advertiser, the effectiveness of the commercial will be taken into account by the advertiser, and they will stop paying to advertise if at the show if they find it ineffective. They can't whine about you missing the commercial, because you don't give a damn about the commercial. You were only here for the show
With adblock, it's the same exact principle. However, in this case, adblock is a bit more common, and therefore people miss the show much, much more often. This causes the advertisers to automatically not advertise where it is ineffective, which causes the owners of the website you're visiting to earn less money.
You can't have the government point a gun up to your head to not use adblock, in the same way that you can't have the government point a gun up to your head for taking a break during the commercials at the free show.
Sure, it doesn't pay the people providing the free show to use adblock, but they did provide the show for free in the first place, using the commercials as a good way to make some money. And ads are effective towards those who don't use adblock.
Just because their show is free, however, does not mean that everyone is there to support the provider of the show. Perhaps they're just checking it out. And since it's provided for free, the best impression comes with a good experience, which is one without ads. There is nothing unethical about watching a free show while taking a break during the commercial, EVEN IF taking a break does not support the showmaker. After all, the show is free.
If you really want to show support, donations are very good for that. A lot of people justify their use of adblock because they support the people they care about anyways through donations, and it's very effective. |
