I don't want to upload 24 420 x 420 decals to make it look like the original 4096 x 2160 image.

Why? They're literally the same file size, and multiple images means more work to upload. 10/20 images are slowly become a developer's choice in making good textures nowadays. Look at Skyrim texture mods and good Gmod custom maps.

Well, we're talking about _roblox_. This isnt a high end game studio, this is online legos. We still dont have 2D interactive objects or line construction yet.

You dont need 4k resolution textures anyway to make a game look good, because its going to look like a giant polished turd in the middle of a bunch of other, less polished turds.

Then who is the person to force technological limitations on what we can make? 4K resolutions will help with a lot of things such as distant backgrounds, HQ textures for weapons, and whatnot.

I would purposely upload tons of 4k images just to screw Roblox up.

1080p is still the consumer standard. 4k hasn't reached that point yet.

It may be the consumer standard, but I am not a consumer since I do not pay for this game.

Monitor/TV consumers, not ROBLOX consumers. 1080p is the current consumer standard for television, and for monitors that's 1366x768 (both of them are 16:9). Most users wouldn't even be able to view 4k images in full resolution since their screens don't have enough pixels to do so.

That's great for you, I've wanted to see what 4k looks like, but I personally wouldn't buy it just yet. There are reasons it's still not the standard and why everyone isn't rushing to get it. For gamers it's very taxing on your GPU, and 4k images aren't a standard yet (since they're pretty heavy on file size). There are other smaller problems with it too that are a bit off-putting.

Did you know that in the past, you can only upload resolutions up to 256x256?

Today, you can upload 512x512 resolution, maybe even up to 1024x1024. It should be good enough. I consider 512x512 to be high-res.

512 is good enough for an online game consisting mostly of toddlers.

If the image is natively 512x512 then it will be a high-res image. If it's something way smaller or way bigger you're going to get a low-res conversion.
