Contrary to common thought, profiting does not hinge on mathematical expertise; rather, it is based on numerous forms of psychology that you must craft to your advantage. The key to profiting is appealing to people's self-interest while pursuing deals & understanding the inclinations and emotions that make people tick. Here, I will list numerous principles which are essential for profiteering.
When dealing with prideful people, appeal to their pride by making them feel superior to you; make them feel as if they are ripping you off without you being aware of it, while, in reality, you are the one ransacking him or her. If you have a reputation and the user knows it, make sure your foolishness fits in with your reputation, or he may suspect that you are deceiving him. Do not make yourself look too foolish unless you are dealing with an absolute fool, or the user may get too greedy and be angered when they are unable to rip you off by a substantial amount (in their perspective).
When someone is attracted to an item’s looks (an item that you have), do not make it obvious that you are trying to extort them, again contrary to common thought. If people see that you are trying to rip them off, they will have a special disdain for you, which will almost always stop the deal after rounds of negotiating (due to them being hesitant to willingly get ripped off). Instead, make it seem as if your item is worth more than it is, as it will appeal to their emotions, making them feel as if they are getting a fair (not an excellent, that is too deceitful) deal for an item they want. Only rip people off in this situation if they are oblivious to values.
For instance, back when WWC was 1.16M, I desired to get it for cheap, perhaps 950k. This owner LMaDed, but, just as most of the people who you could pull this on, he was not that intelligent. Note that, at the time, I was a rich LMaDing magnate, and thus was automatically viewed as ambitious; I had to remove that stereotype. I came to him and offered him OSTF x6 + BSTF, which, at the time, added up to 900k. This offer did a few things:
It appealed to his physical desires (by getting him to visualize the ‘grandeur’ of owning 6 OSTFs, perhaps a braggable possession). By using this illusion as a trojan horse, I was able to much more easily make him believe that OSTF was bound to be a good investment, as his physical desires clouded his reasoning.
It helped paint me as a moderately desperate fool who would give up such beautiful possessions to attain WWC. Note that you must not look too desperate.
Since it was 50k below my desired price, he could create a counter-offer and we could meet in the middle.
After this offer, I told him how I wanted WWC (but didn’t want to overpay for it) and appealed (half-heartedly, not too energetically) to the idea of him having OSTF x6 + BSTF). I did not paint myself as too much of a fool, but enough of one to overpay a bit for the ‘low-demand’ WWC. After his counter-offer, I offered my original offer (BSTF + OSTF x6) + CF. CF is a key item to add in deals of that size, as it is high demand, fits with the fedoras, and looks simple and attractable. CF is an iconic item - people like to get iconic items in their deals.
A key principle, which I keep repeating, is that you must adapt your attitude to your reputation. Thus, you must look at your own reputation honestly. If you are rich, this applies just as much, if not more. Try to act fairly above-average in intellect, but never show the opposing user your true intelligence, or his whole perception of you and the deal will surely change.
If someone is desperate to get rid of an item, offer him an excellent, but fairly cheaper, item(s) for it, if you have the motivation to get rid of the item he owns with ease. Capitalizing on desperation and need is the most common way to get a great deal. For instance, back when Merely was starting to look to DevEx, few people were coming to him to buy. Thus, I offered him 670k robux for Eerie - I had a desirable product in exchange for his low-demand one. I had no opposing bids from other users, allowing me to rip him off by an incredible margin.
I’ll likely add to this guide at some point. There are far more aspects to profiting, but these are some that you may not have thought of. Understand people's inclinations and their perceptions of you, and exploit this, and you will profit immensely.

Very good.
This is essentially what people call sharking, but in reality, it's all part of the game.
I like how you take a different approach than most guides I have seen, including my own. |

Thanks @daf, Always, tromba
@Always I don't consider something as sharking unless it involves a direct lie or having people post "A" on a thread, neither of which I agree with.
@kind Not untermed, this is my alt
