Problem Nr.1 f(x) = x^2 + x - 12 the domain is (-infinity,infinity),since the function is DEFINED for all real numbers. Nr.2 f(x) = 1/(x+8) + 3/(x-10) the Solution is all real numbers except -8 and 10 in set builder notation: {x∈R | x=/= (-8), x=/=10}

x^2+x-12=0,a=1,b=1,c=-12 delta=b^2-4ac=1-4(-12)=49 x1=-b+sqr of delta/2a xs=-b-sqr of delta/2a x1=3 x2=-4

Also a useful tool is always the good old Wolframalpha. It can do domain, plots, solve all sorts of equation etc. The best tool for this purpose IMO.

@Above The function is definied for all real numbers therefore the domain is (-infinity,infinity) Also what you did is calculate the roots.

any value the makes the function divide by 0 or take the square root of a negative number is out of the domain i think
