Know this: that I have faith in our right to transparency, our hard-working teachers and our postage stamps. My opponent (you) is conspiring with fat cats, smelly hippies and Exxon Mobil executives.

He's said a couple things that have been controversial, but of course his representation on media is totally skewed and his statements are taken out of context half the time. |

"what"
most republicans seem to be against people collecting welfare because they believe it encourages people not to look for jobs, so i was curious to see if you felt the same way or not

republicans want to promote opportunity over welfare. at least, that's my understanding. they seem to follow the "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" principle. |

Ok so I'm in the same boat as OP so I'm going to give my uncalled for opinion. If you notice where the majority of republicans are from, its poorer states. Meaning most of us have a lot of experience with people on welfare. And its difficult to understand when you're not around it. You watch little kids grow up with this idea instilled in their heads that they can sit around and do nothing and have money come in to them. We've tried to have debates in class with these kids, but they don't listen. It's all that they see, they grow up around people who abuse the welfare system and they see it works. People not as largely affected by it have a harder time understanding that yes, the majority of people are abusing the system. They have these sob stories(which are usually true) that they tell the media. They use these stories to excuse their ways of life. But when you're around it, and you see for your own eyes, it usually becomes a lot clearer on what is going on. And it really sucks that something that could be so useful and helpful is abused in that way, but sadly it happens far too often. |

what a lot of them don't seem to understand is that in order to collect unemployment, you have to actively be searching for work
so a lot of the people on unemployment likely can't find work that they're qualified for and that makes enough money for them to live off of
i'm not as sure about food stamps or healthcare - i think you can collect both of those if you make under a certain amount of income or if you're unemployed, but like i said, i'm not 100% sure on that |

my mom works for a public housing authority, and you wouldn't believe how many people are content with their second-rate lifestyles, and too lazy to do anything more with their lives. and when something goes wrong for them, they feel inclined to cast the blame onto the workers that are trying to help them better themselves.
modern welfare has promoted entitlement among the younger generations. |

@sang and oldsteve
well i mean there are cases where welfare is good (say disability that makes it legit impossible to work)
but for people that just don't want to work, they should be forced to. if you can work, you should. The government should not have to pay for their laziness

What are your opinions on Obamacare?
The most conservative/republican states such as Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, all have the worst healthcare in the country, and have many dire medical problems such as diabetes, obesity, etc. If you are against obama care, why? You would be hurting your own people (conservative republicans). If you are in favor of it, please explain why. Thank you. |

@train
it is my understanding that obamacare does not cover as many medical procedures as they say
put it this way: if someone came into your town/city and said that they know how to make all remedies known to man. now, lets say you need to treat a headache or something. you then go to that person, but he says that that is the only treatment he does not know, but he takes the money you gave him to cure you anyways, without curing it wont seem fair now would it?
