This will be one of the last major updates to the guide, until a major update to Apocalypse Rising comes out. Because of this, I totally overhauled the guide. Remaking it from scratch, it should be much better than the previous ones. DISCLAIMER: This guide is for people who don't know much at the game, or people that just want to waste time staring at things they already know. If you are an mlg 360 noscope pro at Apoc, this guide won't help you much. It does not go in depth on guns or bases.
-Table of Contents- 1. Creating your Character 2. Spawning in/What to do First 3. Perks 4. Cities, Towns and Loot 5. Zombies 6. Other Players 7. Groups 8. Subcategories (Smaller ones that I put here), (Heli Crashes, Patient Zero, Melee Weapons, Baiting, Comparing the Maps) 9. Vehicles (Large section! Beware!) 10. Playstyles/Types of Players 11. Helpful Items 12. Tips and Tricks/What NOT to Do 13. Death
===Creating your Character=== When creating your character, you can change many characteristics. Skin color, hair style, shirt, etc. You should try to wear as dark clothing as possible. I prefer a dark green or brown. Why, you ask? Because darker colors make you blend in at night, when bandits hunt most. I'll get into that later. However, wearing extremely dark colors such as black will make you stick out like a sore thumb during the day. It's up to you if you want to blend in at day or night more. However, keep in mind that it is impossible to be invisible (really hard to see). Anyone looking really hard for you will be able to see you.
===Spawning In/What to Do First=== So you've made your character, and spawned in. If you're lucky, you'll be near a place you can loot. Basically, the first thing you should do is scope the area out for other players and move to the nearest town/city. Worst comes to worst, you die and start out with the same exact stuff you died with. You can buy gamepasses to spawn with better things, such as better food/water, or navigational utilities.
===Perks=== There are four perks in the game. You know what they do basically, but I'll go over it again. Cardio: You sprint faster, and regenerate stamina faster. You also lose less thirst and hunger while sprinting. Good for players who like to get around quickly or be able to run away from danger. Survivalist: My perk of choice. It takes 5 minutes longer for your thirst and hunger to deplete. 5 minutes is longer than you think. When using this perk, you don't need to carry as much food and water. Ninja: Commonly told as the best perk for bandits, this perk makes you silent when walking and almost silent when jumping. Also, you have to be closer for Zombies to detect/chase you. Vitality: Allows you to slowly regenerate health. It takes 10 minutes to regenerate from 1 health to full health. This perk is good for players who don't want to worry about blood bags (as much!), or that frequently get hurt by zombies.
===Cities, Towns and Loot=== So, you've found your first city. You should check every building for loot. At first, you can take pretty much anything. In Reborn, doors can be opened and closed so you can check every building. If you're lucky, you will find a new weapon. If you do, drop your current weapon and then pick up your new one. Almost anything you find will help you. After you finish, move to the next town. At first, you will want to avoid big cities such as Kin, Vernal or Hark. Also, avoid the Radio Tower, for now.
===Zombies=== Zombies are one of the two enemies in the game. They can be found in any city, town, or area in general. However, they cannot be found "in the middle of nowhere". A zombie that is far away from a town likely chased a player to that area. A zombie hit will damage 20% of your health. Meaning, you will die after five hits if you don't use something to heal yourself. Alone, they aren't much of a threat, but sometimes, especially in cities, they can bunch up in huge groups. That is very dangerous. Zombies will die from one headshot from any weapon, so always aim for the head. Aim Down Sights for maximum accuracy. A group of zombies moving towards one area could mean a player, so watch out.
===Other Players=== Other players are the other enemy in the game. It is safe to say that 80% of the players in any given server will shoot and kill you on sight. They frequently have powerful automatic weapons that can kill you in just a couple seconds. This makes them more powerful (and intelligent) than zombies. Some players won't shoot on sight, but will instead run away. Sometimes bandits can group up to kill players. Bandit groups will be your worst enemy. Bandit groups will usually have a car, so if you see one coming towards you, you are pretty much done for (unless you log). Speaking of which, Combat Logging is the act of leaving the game while fighting another person. If you combat log, you will lose all of your loot, leaving behind a translucent white form of your body for your "killers" to loot. You will be notified if you combat log. It is rumored that if you are being shot at, but do not shoot back, you can log safely. I have not tested this myself and do not recommend that you try it. Combat loggers are hated by the community.
===Groups=== Grouping is, like the name says, teaming up with another player or a group of players. Players that are in a group with you cannot hurt you in any way. Sometimes glitches occur where stepping on a mine a teammate placed will cause it to explode. This happened to me once. Some players, usually bandits, will pretend to be nice and join/invite someone to a group, and then betray (leave) when they least expect it and kill them. Betrayers are also hated by the community, and the betrayee will often tell Global that (insert bandit name here) is a betrayer. Betrayers commonly leave a server after betraying. Groups are helpful because 2 guns are better than one, so you are twice as likely to win a fight. It is unwise to have a group that is larger than 4-5 players. Having tons of players can result in supply crises, or betrayals. Having 2 people in the group that use the same gun or ammo is also unwise.
===Subcategories=== These are smaller categories that aren't big enough to get their own section. There are 5 subcategories:
=Helicopter Crashes= Heli crashes are places that spawn randomly around the map. They are easy to find by the smoke that comes from them, or by the fact that you don't really see helicopters in this game. They can spawn high grade military loot. Sometimes, they will spawn nothing, or are already looted. It is rumored that they spawn more frequently on the east side of the map. Some players hide in the helicopter to kill people, or snipe for a distance. Because of this, you should spend as little time as possible at a heli crash. =Patient Zero= (Note: I have not been attacked by Patient Zero and do not know much about him.) Patient Zero is an enemy in the game. He can spawn in many places around the map. He can spawn in Union Square, although it is rumored that he can spawn almost anywhere. If he attacks you, you will hear whispers, your heartbeat, and your screen will shake. You will hear a scream, and you will black out. You will then wake up (if you don't die) in Kin Hospital. =Melee Weapons= The four melee weapons in the game are the crowbar, the combat knife, the hatchet, and the sabre. They are mainly used for killing Zombies to conserve ammo. They are not useful against players, due to the fact that they don't do very much damage. The common debate is that either the hatchet or the sabre is the best. Melee weapons will kill zombies in one hit if placed well. They are dangerous because you can take damage if you miss. =Baiting= Baiting is a common strategy employed by bandits to attract unsuspecting players to a certain location. They might say things like "I left a car at Radio Tower", or "I found an extra M4A1 at Bump Flatts", or "oGM!1! h3L1 crAsH aT d1RK1!1". Once you get to the place they said, you won't find the item they claimed was there. Instead, you'll find a bandit waiting to pump your head full of lead. Try to distinguish between baiting and someone being nice. If I have to leave the game, I might leave my car somewhere and tell people where it is. Overall, try not to take bait. =Comparing the Maps= Reborn is the best map for a laid back experience. I personally use Reborn if I want to use a car because it's a big map. This map is good for players that don't want to fight people as much. Reimagined is a smaller map, best for people who like to fight other people a lot. Amend is slightly larger than Reimagined, but it is a totally different map. There are less spawn points, so beware of spawn-campers waiting to kill you. Many of the towns on it are near the coast. END OF SUBCATEGORIES
===Vehicles=== Vehicles are, well, vehicles. They must be repaired before they can be driven. However, as long as a vehicle has four wheels and fuel, it will be able to move. Although they will move, they will move much slower if they have damaged parts. A damaged Engine will cause the vehicle to give off smoke. Crashing will break your hull, and crashing too hard can cause your car to explode. Some vehicles are glitchy, notable ones being the Motorcycle and Bicycle. As I write this, the Bike goes flying forward when you enter it, and the Motorcycle jumps upward. This may be fixed soon. Usually, cars spawn needing 3 or 4 wheels. They may or may not have damaged parts. If you find a vehicle that is fully repaired, but for example has no gas, was likely abandoned by its previous owner because they didn't have a jerry can. Always check the storage of vehicles for supplies. Fully repairing a vehicle is very rewarding, as you can get around really quickly. You can use the storage of vehicles to hold items such as jerry cans or wheels. Other players can shoot out your wheels, immobilizing your vehicle. This is why it is wise to have spare wheels and car parts. If a vehicle is shot or damaged enough, it will explode.
===Playstyles/Types of Players=== Shoot on Sight Bandit: These players are bandits who will shoot you on sight for loot or for badges. They are dangerous, so be careful of them. Kill for Fun Bandit: These players kill others simply for the fun or thrill of it. Most people hate these bandits, but Kill for Fun Bandits often have the best loot, supplies, or the most kills. Shoot on Sight Survivalist: These players shoot on sight out of fear that you will shoot them. They usually won't hurt you if you don't threaten them. Neutral: These players avoid others, but they aren't afraid to shoot if you come too close. I am personally this. Passive: These players avoid others at all costs. They are the ones that immediately scream "DON'T SHOOT" or "TEAM??" if you even see you coming near them. They often don't have too good loot because they don't kill others.
=How to be a Bandit= See thing Shoot thing
===Helpful Items=== Map: Lets you see a map of the..map. Compass: Lets you see what direction your camera is facing. GPS: Lets you see where you are on the map (you MUST have a map) Flashlight: Lights up the area in front of you. Try not to use this much. Firewood/Matches: Lets you cook meat and light firewood, respectively. Binoculars: Lets you see things that are far away, and identify players from a distance. Entrencher: Lets you move building materials to make bases. Various Building Materials: Can be used to make bases.
===A Few Tips and Tricks=== -Only players with entrenchers can destroy bases. -Don't carry more than 4 food or drink items. -If there is an exploiter on the server, leave immediately! -Don't rage when you die. It makes you look bad. -When/if you accept a random team invite, check the player kills of the teammates. If they have a lot, it might be a trick to kill you. -Don't go to big cities like Kin until you have very good guns. -Risk VS Reward. Is it worth going to Union Square and likely dying for that potential military gun? -You can practice and get familiar with guns in Shenanigans Mod. Not that it's outdated. -Know your fighting style. Do you like to snipe, or fight close range? -Don't waste ammo. Always aim for the head. Use melee weapons for zombies. -Always carry blood bags. -Padded clothing and better DOES provide some protection from zombies. -Use Painkillers before a fight. -Rule of Thumb: The bigger the caliber, the more damage it likely does. -When aiming down sights (attacking players), shoot in short bursts. Full auto makes you inaccurate because of recoil. -Aiming Down Sights is the only way to hit players beyond medium range without wasting ammo. Always follow the effective range of your weapons. -The PPSH is considered the best for CQC, the FAL/G36K is best for medium range, and the M14 is good for sniping. -Only eat or drink when your bars are in the red. -If you find a new clip for your gun, and you have more than 3-4 clips for it, drop your least full mag and pick up the new one. This saves inventory.
