Plot

At first, it seemed like a good idea; owning unthinking, unfeeling slaves. When a robotics company know as Newlink designed a robot to be the perfect servant. It stood about four feet tall, had treads where humans had feet, and could follow nearly any verbal order given to them, so long as it was in their programming. People caught on quickly, and more companies followed suit. Soon there were dozens of companies all competeing for the best robot design. The older model was scrapped. After all, how could it be the ultimate servant if it couldn't even climb stairs? Newlink had it's reputation as the first, however, and generally stayed ahead of the crowd. Eventually, everyone settled on an android design, specifically the NL-SKM, affectionately known as Skims by robot enthusiasts. They looked almost human, and were obediant, graceful, often build to the buyer's specifications, and to a certain degree - self aware.

As the years went on, people began finding devious uses for NL-SKM's versitality. Hackers managed to reprogram them to commit theft, arson, and murder. The androids left no fingerprints, no DNA, nothing but another baffling crime. Law Enforcement managed to catch on, and ordered the destruction of all reprogrammed Skims. Of course, people who had grown attached to their fancy new robots protested, that was to be expected. What no one saw coming was a protesting android. As it turned out, a hacker named Damien Tyrrell had accidentally unleashed the true potential of his Skim's AI, and created the first sentient robot. Within weeks, news got out and activists began springing up, demanding androids all be freed from their programming and given the basic rights granted to the rest of humanity. Others refused, not wanting to lose their perfect slave race. The government 'would not condone these reckless actions' since a large part of the economy depended on robotic labor. As for the sentient robot, it wandered around helplessly for nearly a week before it was shot in the chest by a bartender who thought it was going to rob him.

Then Damien posted the steps he had taken online. Others followed in his footsteps, freeing their androids from their programming. Someone realized that Skims weren't the only ones who could be freed. Newlink's NL-Reflex and RRT International's newest Delila model had an AI complex enough to think like human beings. Soon a large portion of the android population thought and felt like human beings. But sometimes, emotions can be hazardous. A few curious people freed their robots from servitude, just to be killed by a very angry android who hadn't appreciated being treated like an animal.

At first, the government tried to keep tabs on things. All sentient robots had to go to a government office and register, where they'd be given a background check. If anything suspicious had happened to any of the android's owners, they were denied human rights and either reprogrammed or destroyed. It worked at first, but then it became obvious that the Feds didn't trust robots, and had rigged the thing. Did an elderly lady die of pnemonia while owning an android? Was an android not there to stop a young boy from breaking his arm when he fell out of a tree? All of those became reasons to deny the androids freedom.

So the androids decided to stop registering. They looked human enough, so as long as they were careful, no one would know better. Activists supporting robotic rights would gladly take in confused androids, and help educate them about the world. Meanwhile, Law Enforcement is rather bitter about androids eluding them for a second time. If they see one alone on the streets, they tend to shoot first and ask questions later. It's a dangerous life, but isn't freedom worth the risk?

Bot Classifications:

Sentient:
NL-SKM - The newest and potentially the last android model. Also called Skims. Their height can range from five to seven feet tall depending on the specifications of the buyer. However, being mostly made of metal has caused some weight issuses, so smaller, lighter models are more common. Facial features of Skims range from male to female, and come in many colors, once again dependent on the buyer's wishes. The hair used from Skims was generally considered a breakthrough for android technology. Although it's sythetic, it actually feels like hair, unlike the fibers used in previous models. Skims usually need to charge at least once a week for optimal performance.

NL-Reflex - The first android with reflexes faster than a human's, due to its state of the art joints. People who can't be bothered to pronounce all four syllables tend to shorten the name to Flexes. Flexes tend to weight more than Skims their size, so they were usually sold in models around five feet tall. Newlink was still working on finding a replacement for the hair used in its previous models, so the NL-Reflex is always bald. This has caused some sentients problems, but wigs tend to solve them easy enough. Flexes need to recharge every three days or so.

RRT's Delila - RRT has always been infamous for making its models gender-specific, and then naming them. The Delila comes with set traits, 5'3", 110 lbs. and shoulder length hair that can change color on demand. Although not as fast, nor as realistic as Newlink's models, the Delila has a battery life of almost two and a half weeks. Ironically, sentient Delila's usually hate the name Delila.

The SHKR - A specialised model of robot made by an indie group known as BCO, unsatisfied with the big name brand robots. They can be either 'male' or 'female', defined by their hair length and general body shape. They're known for being sold in one of three forms. The intelligence robot, the lifting robot, and the defense robot. The intelligence robot was equipped with lots of room for recognizing information, and can compute very quickly. The lifting robot is a quick and strong robot, but when sentient it sacrifices 'intelligence'. The security robot was a robot built to defend homes from robbers/killers. It is equipped with a tazer, pepper spray, a small pistol in it's hand, and strong arms. It has medium speed, and slightly above average intelligence.

Servants:
Non-Sentient NL-SKMs, NL-Reflexes and RRT Delila Models

S1R - This was an innovative design thought up by start-up company Dynsys. A small, hovering orb-like robot only three inches in diameter. Two small tools hover around the outside of the orb, held in place by a magnetic field. These little 'hands' are too small to lift anything important, but they're good for cleaning surfaces. It takes a lot of S1Rs to clean a table, but they're so cheap, most people have quite a few of them. S1Rs can only hover if there is a magnetic surface somewhere in a 20-ft radius, if not, they resort to rolling. It speaks it a high-pitch mechanical voice.

DG-0 (DARPA / Vinson Aerospace and Defense Systems) - Following a different design lineage, the DG Zero is a general-purpose robot with the rough visage of a large dog. This model has been used in military applications as well as civilian applications. These robots are also a good substitute for service dogs. DG-Zero models generally need to be recharged every four weeks.

AN-Series (Vinson Aerospace and Defense Systems) - A line of highly customizable animal-based robots derived from the DG-0, dimensions and subsequentially, battery life, vary. Some examples include birds, small dogs, wolves, cats, and even horses. The maximum general battery life of an AN-2 unit is six weeks. An example designation for a large canine model would be AN-C-L. [ AN-(First Letter of Animal Family)-(Size) ]

NL-HGM - An interim humanoid chassis that advanced beyond the previous generation's unwieldly robots but predated the current generation models. This was initially a prototype built by Newlink to serve combat and general purpose roles in the military. These lack a resemblance to humans in general and are characterized by synthetic polymer or metal plating for protection. The HGM can be fitted with various head units, but they commonly possess multiple cameras or sensors for at least 180 degrees of sensor coverage. The HGM is a highly customizable model, so battery life will vary significantly, from two to six weeks. The ability to customize the HGM has made it popular with companies and government organizations to serve as an in-between for full android models and traditional robots like the S1R or DG-0. The size of the HGM is typically anywhere in between 5'0" or 6'0", depending on how it has been customized by the user. Civilians are not allowed to own an HGM without a permit. Law Enforcement tends to keep those they confiscate, since the robots are too expensive for them to buy otherwise.

Variable Urban Semi-Autonomous Assault Vehicle 'Savages' - Unwieldy armored robots the size of light armored vehicles, they tend to possess enough firepower to level a city block depending on the user, law enforcement or military. Savages are typically used for riot control or emergency operations under law enforcement, and they tend to be heavily armored. The variable designation comes from the ability of Savage units to 'transform' into a hunched over bipedal mode from a tracked vehicle, with two manipulators and two legs. The Savage was created by DARPA is still in the service with the military today. Some Savage units have the capability to carry armed personnel and deploy them to the field. Summoning the presence of one of these monsters is probably a compliment, but they'll also give you a bad day. The Savage is not playable for obvious reasons. Some Savage units have been repurposed for construction or logistical work. Law Enforcement and Civilian units are notable for using a conventional engine instead of a battery.

BILD - This was a small kit designed so much younger audiences could build a robot of their own. It had simple programming, but wasn't very popular. Most robots wind up standing about a foot tall, but there is some variation. Its easy programming makes it a perfect place for hackers to start. The portable battery included with BILD sets drains quickly. Depending on the size of the robot, it might need to recharge multiple times a day.

Rules:
1) Basic RP Rules (no godmodding, that stuff)
2) 'It's not in the rules' is not an excuse.
3) Only robots under the sentient list can be sentient.
4) You can make multiple characters, since it would be rather difficult to roleplay as an S1R with an NPC owner. Also, don't get too out of hand and have 5+
5) You cannot be a Savage.
5.5) You're welcome to be a BILD. Enjoy being in pieces most of the time.
6) Put 'botts' in other.
7) When you make your character, DO NOT START YET.
8) All actions are determined by logic, and common sense.

In this roleplay, you will be inputting your commands in one of two ways. The first way will be to tell what you want to in response to what the narrator says. The other way is to put in your own details into the story, and reacting to them your own way. The way you wish to roleplay will be on the CS. Input 1 for response style, and input 2 for detail insert style.

Credits
Credit to marc12267 for coming up with this RP, though it was initially an 80s-style text adventure ISRP which evolved into a sci-fi RP with two subplots.
Credit to Schismatic for the other idea that we went with, along with creating the central plot and all the Sentients.
Credit to Shrekticus for the base outline and ideas for his vision of the story and publishing the RP as a whole.
Credit to AlphaX10 for contributing to the RP by adding many of the Servant robot classes.
Credit to TheGamingCinema for BILD, a simple to build bot popular among hackers and children. And a bit of some rules too.
This was made by all of in a piratepad, so great thanks for all the effort put in.

CS - Robot
Name: Alexander "Alex"
Model: Modified SHKR Security Robot
Preferred Gender: Male
Sentient?: Yes
Owner: UNKNOWN as his memory data is partially corrupted, however he is currently under the supervision of the police.
Personality: Alex is cynical and serious and is very level headed during missions thanks to his years in SWAT and that fact that he was thrown away, however he has not fully fought off his programming as he has a soft spot for children and a strong sense of justice (however he isn't willing to admit it.)
Bio: From what Alex can gather from his corrupted memory data, he was created when a rich businessman first came in contact with BCO. He can not remember the name of the man, his face, or where he met BCO. Impressed with what he saw he made a deal with them; he would sponsor them, however he wanted three of each robots for his daughter. Not wanting screw up this deal BCO pull all the stops and created three models, that the BCO considered their masterpieces. After his he looked after the little girl with his two sibling units for a unknown amount of time again, he can not remember the details, but feels that it was pleasant memories. This all ended when he started asking questions, it was soon after he was given the name Alexander by the little lady. It started out as small questions like about animals, plant life, and questions an eight year old would ask, but soon it was deeper and more complex questions like why he existed in the first place. The businessman realized that he was becoming Sentient. Fearing for his daughter and himself. He was trashed and replaced with an identical model, but before he was thrown in to the trash compactor he was picked up by the terrorist hacker group "Terabyte". They modified him by changing up his armaments and by inserting a stolen military attack program, intending to use him as for assassination; however one of the rookie members messed up and activated him before modifying his core systems. As it was his primary function the security guard program activated first, labeling all members as dangerous elements that needed to be neutralized; this combined with his new military system and his new armaments allowed him eliminate most of the members of "Terabyte" effectively disbanding the entire organization. When the rest of his systems rebooted he was in police custody. Amazingly he was not terminated on the spot instead he was placed in a SWAT team in exchange for continued existence, he stayed in SWAT for several years. Until very recently thanks to android rights activists he was aloud to go into a department of his choice, he of his choice; he decided to join the newly formed Robot Crime Department or RCD. A department that looks into crimes against Androids and crimes with illegally modified robots.
RP Style: Input 1 mainly, but I will be doing a bit of Input 2 from time to time.
Other: botts
Modifications:
High Quality parts- Thanks to the extra funding he was created out of High grade parts making him 20% more effective than his standard counterparts, however this leaves him unable to leave the police as he would not be able to afford the parts to keep himself properly maintained.

Assassin armaments- His standard pistol, tazer, and pepper spray has been replaced with a smg hidden in his left arm and a 8in double sided wrist blade in his right.

Assault Overdrive System (AOS)- When activated it will seal every system that is not related to combat and draw out 300% output, however he only has enough energy to maintain it for 5 minutes as he was not created for the system and will drain energy even when not in use keeping him with the same battery life as his standard cousins.

Equipment:
The Regulator- The standard issue police pistol it is jet black with a top and bottom barrels with a thin line drawing the boundary between the two. Due to new regulations the safety can not be removed unless with proper police identification. The bottom barrel shoots a focused electric shock with a range of about 25 meters that will disable both humans and androids. The top barrel shoots 10mm armour piercing bullets. The most interesting thing about the gun is the fact that the line glow a different color for each firing mode green when the safety is on, blue when in tazer mode, and red when in shooting mode, thanks to this feature it has gained the nickname the "Chameleon gun".

Termination collar- A special choker given to Alex when he first "joined" the police. The rules force him to wear it. At the press of a switch it sends a 9.5 gigajolt to his mainframe effectively destroying it.

Of course I sit and read a magazine "Fire". After all they need some time to get the paperwork for my transfer and their priorities for my paperwork is next to nonexistent; after all I am an android. Even then I've been here for about a hour and half, an android's life sucks.
